| So you turn on that last plug-in and the puter starts freaking out... Would that be the memory or the cpu reaching the max? |

| Most likely CPU. RAM has an impact on many things, including performance. But DSP power is mostly dependent on CPU if we're talking normal processing and not sample playback.

| I agree with Lagerfeldt, usually when I get such problems, it's a tapped out CPU. RAM usage usually suffers from numerous virtual instruments, not plug-ins, assuming we are talking about some sort of native saw setup. On my old P4 setup, there would always be that point I would reach when I added one more plug-in, and the whole thing just stalled and pooped out. Luckily, the new quad-core stuff available today usually makes this a non-issue. |
