Unhappy Left/right swap from Mac internal CD drive

Has anyone come across anything like this before?

It's taken me a while to discover - because I normally listen to CDs through a CD player - not the Mac, but when I play a CD from my Mac internal CD player, it swaps the left and right sides over.

It's happening before the outputs. If I extract audio from a CD using Toast, the resultant soundfile is opposite to that which I burnt (in an external CD burner) a few seconds previously.

Very strange.

Now I'm aware of it, it's easy to work around, but I was wondering if anyone else has heard of this happening?

neil.

That's interesting that you should mention this now as I just discovered the same thing TODAY!! I thought the balance on my Genelecs was a bit off (PT out to Coleman LS3 to speakers) Indeed the internal sound control's L/R control is reversed...never noticed it before........strange....

In QuickTime for Windows (which affects iTunes), in the prefs you can simply switch Left & Right.

Andi - it's not the internal controls that are reversed. The sound control panel left/right output test works fine.

Rail - I can't find any relevant Quicktime preference. Could it be a Windows only thing?

The only way I can work around it is ...

If I import a CD into Logic, put a LR swap plug-in on the channel it's playing back on, or...

If I'm playing a CD through Toast or the Mac CD player (which doen't happen often) select the LR reverse knob on the amp I'm monitoring through.

If I'd noticed it a few years ago, I would have sent the computer bacj to Apple, but it's a little late now!

You should get some of those inversion boots so you can hang upside down when you listen to CD's
