Metric Halo 2882 & 003

is it possible to use the 2882 with my 003 so that i can have the extra 8 ports and use the DSP function of it, so that my pro tools still runs? if so am i right in just saying daisy chain the 2 and use ADAT to connect the 2 using the 003 as the master and MH as slave?

"In" may be too strong a word (as you cannot insert the plug directly in either PT or Logic), but you can definitely use HaloVerb (and the other +DSP plugins) WITH Logic and/or Pro Tools by routing through the box and plugins (either on the way in or out) and either returning the processed audio to the host, or summing it in the MIO with the MIO's summing bus. The complete routing/summing/plugin configurations can be saved in your host's session with ConsoleConnect -- and ConsoleConnect allows you to control the MIO from within your host.

So, basically, yeah -- you can do that!

How many i/o in PTLE (18 maximum i/o, 10 digital) does that leave you?

I'm not sure I understand the question. It depends on what you mean. If you are using the MIO as an I/O expander for your PT HW, than it uses those ports (ADAT, say) and allows you to get Input from the MIO (Analog, for example). The processing can be done on the way in. In the opposite direction, the same applies. If you want to use the MIO as an external processing box and return the processed audio to PT, then it would be one channel of I/O for every channel you want to process (just as it would be with any external processing).

I hope that answers the question. If not, please clarify what you mean...

With the Lexicon PCM96, or the Focusrite Liquid Mix...both firewire devices...none of the 18 i/o are used when mixing with them. None. Zero. You can use all 18i/o for other outboard, while enjoying 32 channels of Liquid Mix and 4 channels of Lexicon PCM96 on top of that.

That's what I'd like in a firewire effects device.

With Pro Tools? I was unaware that Digidesign allowed that.

Yes with Pro Tools LE. Digidesign doesn't allow it to be licensed as RTAS, because Digi is a frightened little company terrified that any hardware accelerator would compete with their precious TDM cards. However, Digi does allow fxpansion to make a VST to RTAS wrapper, which all these hardware accelerators use to shoehorn themselves into the Pro Tools (LE or HD) environment.
