beats.. what does everyone make them with now?

i used to do a lot of beats with fruityloops... it always seemed a little too rigid for me..
what else (software) are ppl using to make beats nowadays

beat creation, not lining up other ppls samples.

pre-thx

Guru is awesome.

If you use Logic then you already have Ultrabeat, which is very nice too.

Ableton Live, which is rad.

Sometimes Protools,

Used to do a lot in Logic too.

The software is really irrelevant, I think..... You just find the way to make it do what you want.

(Obviously I'm not talking about any hardware here....

I don't think software is irrelevant. I find it much easier to write music in Cubase, Live, or Logic, than in Pro Tools, and I'm much, much more proficient in PT.

thx for the replies...

im looking into guru, battery, abelton, reaktor, and sampletank..

i run my audio with cubase, but im not a big fan of step editing.. i prefer something with loop based sequencing (like fruity loops 'tracker' style, but hopefully with more fluidity)...

ill try a couple of demos and see what works

thx

i used rm4 for the last few years, but have just switched to ultrabeat in logic, which is pretty amazing. the step edit mode is so versatile.. you can program a different setting for every parameter of the sound each time it is triggered, then just grab the midi part and drop it into your project. the way you can route swing settings to individual sounds is awesome too.

logic looks pretty pimpin... but seems a little overkill since i already use cubase sx2

drums? for beats? .. ... even though i am a drummer/with a nice lil studio, i prefer to make my electric beats digitally... maybe some triggers?

thx for the replies... i have to get some demos and try em out

drummer

hey whats up im a drummer as well, i was doing all electro/ programming. but latley i was inspired by the new roots album and maybe any real drummer may want to mess a round.....

i wrote the whole beat, drums instruments etc.... then went live drums to a click over the programmed drums, then chopped the really tight live drum grooves to taste. erased the orig electronic drums.....

It sounded good with an obvious nice live feel, but way 2 clean sounding , so to further it i put some mild filtered distortion on the overheads and messed around with the snare eq's cutting the high's out etc some old sounding big verb and it sounded like a nice old school break of sorts,

pretty fun doing real drums and then making it to sound like samples or vintage drum breaks etc...
