Recommend set of effects for MacPro

I am a home studio hobbyist. I need to decide to replace a PowerCore PCI card with a PCIe?
My new computer has considerable processing power (MacPro with 8 coprocessors).
It seems to me that the auxiliary processors on the card are no longer necessary.
Is there a recommended set of digital plugin effects for the Mac you could recommend, or is the best deal to buy a UAD or PowerCore card with the included effects?
My budget is variable. If there is an important reason to pay more, I will consider it, but I am not a professional studio.
Thank you,
ES

What DAW? For Pro Tools, look at Massey plugins.

Liquid Mix is awesome for the dough. UAD-1 is the best in the business, but it is a bit underpowered (waiting on UAD-2).

There are plenty of free plugins that are useful.

More info

I am currently working with Digital Performer 4.6, considering upgrading to 6.0 (when it comes out) or Logic 8.
I do guitar, keyboard, voice, and midi guitar.
Thank you, ES

Nice set of plugins

Thank you for all respondents.
Any other opinion for a set of useful plugin sound filters, hardware or non-hardware based?
It is possible that I can upgrade/crossgrade my Powercore card and standard effects suite (14 TC Electronics effects) at a discount.
Would this make sense?
I owned the PCI card version and found the effects good to OK, but I am far from an expert user and have a poor overview of what else is out there.
With the Mac Pro, I believe that I have quite a bit of processing power and do not have real need for the coprocessors in the Powercore and UAD-1 sets. Still, is it possible that these two sets of effects (with or without card) are very good and very competitive?
Any other opinions?
ES

Another opinion for a set of useful plugin sound filters, non-hardware based is NI Reaktor, if you are into pop/electro

UAD now has a Moog filter that people are happy with (haven't tried it myself but the demo is cool).
