Atmosphere 1.2.4 & Logic 8.0.2 Fails Validation...

Herein below I have copied and pasted the results from Logic 8.0.2's Audio Units Manager, whilst attempting to manually validate Spectrasonics Atmosphere. I doubt if there's going to be a solution to this somewhat major issue, as a quick visit to Spectrasonic's website reveals the Audio Unit component of Atmosphere hasn't been updated since July 2005.

I would like to see Spectrasonics address this issue. Might Spectrasonics attempt to pass the buck on to Apple, though? I don't think there's an argument there for Spectrasonics. Apple, albeit a bit slow, do eventually get around to updating their software at some point in time.

Am I expected (by Spectrasonics) to go out and buy an upgrade from Atmosphere to Omnisphere...? For the record, I don't want or need Omnisphere. I bought a Synthesizer software package. I expect it to receive the required support from the company that created it. Just like Arturia do. Or maybe Izotope. Are Spectrasonics leaving behind their Atmosphere customers here? Will Atmosphere get a simple update to enable it to validate properly with Logic 8.0.2? I hope so. I remain an optimist. An optimist lacking a tool that I purchased with perfectly crisp money once upon a time.

I'll say it again: I bought Atmosphere from your company, Eric. I think you make some very creative tools but unfortunately your company are increasingly perpetrating this somewhat unfair trend of "reinventing" your older software, then altering it's name, but then leaving behind the older software that was bought and paid for by your customers with good money, so that it eventually fails to work on new updates such as, in my case, Logic 8.0.2. And then along comes the big sales pitch: OMNISPHERE! So powerful, so omnipresent!

Eric, please could you update my Atmosphere component plugin with maybe 0.000001% of the incoming revenue from those who decide to buy Omnisphere. I would be eternally grateful if you could just take care of that.

I'm not really that partial to having my arm twisted into buying Omnisphere just because Spectrasonics choose not to support Atmosphere in a thoughtful and customer caring manner. I find Spectrasonics somewhat irritating with regard to their abject lack of support for their older but perfectly good plugins.

Did you download the 'wrapper' file that allows Atmosphere to run on Intel Macs? I just went through the install/authorization process a couple of days ago and it's running fine on my Mac Pro even with the wrapper.

there's a solution, bit unorthodox...
you click Preferences > Audio Units Manager

Atmosphere (or Trilogy) will be classifed as "failed validation"

You click the check button next to it, the validation tool starts, be quick and abort it (click abort).

The status should change to "not yet validated", now select Atmosphere (or Trilogy) and click on the "Reset & Rescan Selection" button. Let the validation tool load and fail the plug-in, the status should change to "failed validation" however you'll now be able to load the plug-in with the occasional request from logic whether you want to ignore the invalid plug-ins.

This is a workaround at best..neither an official solution nor do I want to be held accountable for that crash during one of them magic sessions ,)

I have a brand new Mac Pro 8 core, 8G, etc. Do you think it's likely that the Spectrasonics wrapper is what's causing Logic to crash regularly? It's really a virgin system and I can't imagine what else would be causing it.

This isn't just an Intel issue. I have the same thing happening on my PPC G4. The same AU versions that were working under Tiger and Logic Express are now failing validation under Leopard 10.53 and Logic Pro 8.02. I get the same error message that rosewoodstrat got.

Hi,

I was so worried by the failed AUvalidation with Atmosphere and Trilogy that I had to find a solution.

Here it is:

Use the FXpansion VSTtoAU Adaptor v2.0.

Put a copy of the VST versions of the instruments of the VSTtoAU vstplugins folder.

Put a symbolic link to the instruments respective .dat files in the same folder.

Launch VSTtoAU

Done!

You'll find fully working VIs in a VST submenu in the I/O>AU Instruments menu.

Only issue is you have to reassign the instruments in all previous Logic projects, and your former aupresets won't be available in the wrapped instruments.

I know this is a workaround, but it works fine, and I'm able again to work with both instruments. Who knows when an update (upgrade) of Trilogy will be released ?...
