Thread Starter | G3 system drive to new G4 Hi all, I'm upgrading my G3 350 to a new G4 dual 1gig - a few people have suggested to me to bring over my current system drive to the new computer to save all the hassle of porting the installs/plug-in's over. Are there any downsides to doing this? the new G4's say the system drive is Ultra ATA -does that mean anything relevant here? Appreciate any advice, |

| Sorry to say, I don't think that will work... We upgraded our G4/400 to a G4/466 when they came out (to be able to put another dsp card in the extra PCI slot) and tried to swap the system drive for the reasons you mentioned... Didn't work. Different OS (needed 9.2 to boot the 466) and different PCI bussing. We wound up swapping the drives back out and reinstalling everything... Major PITA. You may (however) be able to copy your system start up disc onto an external, copy that to the system drive and boot up from the copy. Hope you find an alternative!
