New McDsp plugs rock!!!!!!

Wow. Just downloaded the 3 new plugs from McDsp for $95 upgrade to my emerald bundle. The de-esser is sick. I love it. Its very flexible and after playing with it for a couple minutes I am confident it will be a daily driver for me. You can really zero in with accuracy that I don't think I could achieve with something like Rdesser. I love being able to increase/decrease the q width. Really keeps things intact because its more accurate. Kinda like shooting a rifle with a scope vrs one without. Its just nice and clear without the stuffiness of some other de-essers. The futzbox is bad ass and provides so many cool affects from lofi sources like telephone but not just telephone. They have settings for intercom, modern telephone, old phone, cell phone, boombox. etc...!!!!! Definitely a mojo plug. Lots of fun. The filter plug is equally amazing. I tend to EQ my vocals by making notch filters and cutting instead of boosting frequencies so the noise filter is right up my alley. Like the Desser it has a very flexible Q. Once again a daily driver for me. Best $95 I've spent in a while. I love McDsp.

I've been very excited about these plug-ins but just haven't had the time to properly use them yet. I had a go with Futzbox though, I liked it and will most likely use it in the future. It wasn't a wow-moment though as it was with Speakerphone.

McDSP vs Waves

Overall, how would you say McDsp compares to Waves?

That's a tough call .. They sound really different to me. Both are
excellent.

FilterBank and CompressorBank were both designed to emulate
different hardware modules. So, they're sort of like chameleons
in that regard ..they don't have "a" sound, they have many sounds.
They sound really good .. but, they sound different from the
RenComp or RenEQ from Waves.

The ML4000 is probably one of the best mastering limiters out
there ... super powerful, super dangerous. The combination of
a gate, a compressor, an expander *per band* then feeding a limiter
with a variable knee is about as many knives as I can juggle. When
all you have is an unruly stereo mix, or a drum track that's as dead
as doornail, the ML4000 is great. It's also indispensable for
post work. Some people say the Waves C4 is a good equivalent,
but the ML4000 is much more versatile.

Chrometone is a good amp modeler, but Waves GTR is a more
full featured offering now ..

Channel-G is a good strip .. again, multi-modal (like the Filter and
Compressor bank).

The Revolver is your typical convolving reverb .. nothing special about
it (at least to me). I compare it to the IR-1. Both are hungry CPU monsters.

Analog Channel is a combo of a OpAmp strip emulator from various consoles
and a tape emulator. Both are very good. I used to use AC for tape emulation
until Digi's reeltape came out .. and I'm using that now.

Waves doesn't have a tape emulator ( other than some impulses ).

I haven't tried the new stuff.. but have seen them demo'd .. they look interesting.

And as far as TDM prices, I think they're pretty much the same as they have
been.. I don't think they've jacked them at all.

Bottom line, you can get great mixes out of the McDSP stuff and the
Emerald pack is a very good deal (considering now many plugs you
get for the price).
