SONAR digital summing vs Fireface 400 Digital summing

Hi everyone,

Few days ago I made a quick experiment, comparing SONAR 5 digital summing and Fireface (RME) 400 digital summing. Please download: hadisumoro.com/audio/demo/mixcomp1.zip (45Mb) or go to: hadisumoro.com/audio/audioexp.htm for the complete routing information.

Compare number 2 and 3 (ignore wave file#1). I found this very interesting. I haven't tried it with other DAW and software, but I am very happy with tihs experiment. I found a new way of mixing!

Let me know what you guys think!

Hadi

I can believe nobody has replied to this. It just occured to me that the stereo width might be better and so i checked the rme forum. yes!
send my submixes to different outputs of the rme, panned them the way i wanted them and the stereo image has drastically improved!!
thumbs up for fireface, thumbs down for logic. sorry
thanks hadi for giving me the final push to try it!

Cool! RME does a good job making DSP for the fireface!

How would that compare with the current Sonar X1?

SONAR X1 does a good job actually. I have not compared it to FF400 in particular because I have sold my FF400. However, I tried to do in the box summing vs out of the box summing (with SPL mixdream), the X1 result is pretty impressive!

As submarin pointed out somewhat cryptically, the only thing that changes is the pan-laws. You can change them in your DAW if you prefer working that way.
