Optical Cable max length???

What's the longest distance you can run a ADAT Optical (Dig) cable? I've got a bunch of Gigastudios in the CRM that are driving me nuts. They're going into my PT system which lives in the CRM, but I'd sure like to get the other guys OUT of the CRM. Any inexpensive options for running ADAT Optical cables maybe.....40+ feet? Thx guys!!

Mine go 10 meters (about 33'). Never had problems.

For longer, I use this:

I used to always hear 15 feet or something, but I used a 20ft Toslink cable with no (noticeable) trouble. I would imagine, like most stuff, there are some other factors involved (cable quality and send/receive circuitry). I always wanted to do a "phase flip/null" test or something to see what I was actually getting.

FWIW, I've heard of people adapting to real glass cable to go long distances, but have no idea what that involves. You may be able to get by with an in-between device acting as a repeater, or you could use a box on both ends which converts to a different digital signal (like those CAT-5 boxes).

I was thinking of larger rack or wallmounted things I had seen. Any idea what it runs "moneywise" for just 8 channels?
