Converting audio into midi in logic 8?

I am wondering if it is possible to create a midi track from a audio track. The reason I want to do this is to put a midi track from a vocal track and control a software vocoder to follow the notes of the vocal track. This would be cool to make me sound like I could actually play a keyboard. It seem like I remember reading a post somewhere about this but cannot remember.

open up the audio in the audio editor and you will find audio to midi under the functions menu.

This is not new technology, I remember "Studio Vision" on my G3/266 around 1997 had this feature!

Yes it does, and can be used for ripping of live drums grooves that you can replace programmed drums with for a non quantized live feel, to creating groove templates to sound replacing live drums,to matching up bass lines to live drum patterns, using midi created hits to triggers keys etc etc etc......have fun with it i know i have over the years ...
