Question G5's and the UAD-1 Studio Pak....

I'm runin OSX.3.4 on a 1.6ghz single processor G5 with Cubase SX2.2 and acouple Motu HD192's, just installed my first uad-1 card. Got everything going but it seems like i can only run 7-10 plugs... max

I thought the uad-1 should run a shit load more than that, no? What's up, do i just need to instsall the updates?

hi Its me from the UA forum

Ill post the same here

to help you I need to know sample rate I think you have 1 but you said you spent 1600 on it

thats not right

anyway , if you want higher plugin count you'll have to use plugins that arent so heavy
the 1176LN is the worst switch it to an SE

Switch the dreamverb or use a native one

also the fairchild is a killer on the uad so if youre looking for more performance lose it

I myself have 2 cards though I am missing the top 3 plugins I am pretty good with performance in 48k I use la2a more than the 1176 and pultec pro
most of the time remember to disable sections of the plugin you are not using also

If you have a decent native eq use it since you can get killer compressors from the uad 1

also some tweaks i learned

in cubase device setup multi track
advanced

audio priority high ( not highest but high )

give a high buffer size

and the other one I honestly forgot do a search for my name on the UA site I wrote it down

is the uad meter at 100 % or close to it or your system just cant handle it ?

I think its full most people do complain about track count with only 1 card

One way to look at it is you're paying for quality
here and remeber paying half price for another card gets you double the pluigin count

but for now Id suggest the lighter plugins and native plugins to ease the load

try mixing with an 1176LN on vox only and using the big ones where it really counts

Hey --

Where is the UA forum?

I'd like to check it out since I'm thinking of getting one of these cards.

Thanks,

Matt
