delete quicktime and safari?

I have been having endless problems with opening Pro Tools LE, and have tried several methods to fixing this bug.

I have been told it is because of the automatic updates that have been run for mac OS 10.4.11.................

would i be able to uninstall both Safari, and quicktime? or is there a way to downgrade from 7.4.1 (quicktime) aswell as downgrade from 3.1(safari) to the previous version.

you help would be greatly appreciated

2 suggestions: reinstall Protools or install the OS 10.4.10 - it works for me just fine.

People I know use 10.4.11 though with no problems...

To downgrade, you need to reinstall OSX from a DVD, then download and use the COMBO updater - I never use software update, heard too many horror stories.

Best luck!

I am not a pro tools user but do run a mac on 10.4.11 and find it more stable than ever now. You have a few options if you are finding it buggy;

As mentioned already go back to 10.4.10 and older versions of the programs if it all worked fine. (through uninstalling or a clean install. Just make sure you are completely backed up when clean installing!!!)

The best thing I ever did for my mac was to ditch Safari all together for a better browser like Firefox. (I think it is more likely safari could be interfering with pt than quicktime)

Also on the subject of clean installing, if you mac has seen a lot of action (updates, hd writes, new programs etc) without a clean install this can start causing you problems and denting the macs potential performance.

I agree that you should never auto-update with everything apple put up. The only updates I normally use are the security updates.

Hope this helps!

Be careful as Protools has different responses from other audio software... I have found that non-protools people are unaware of these so I ignore their advice - no offense meant to secretagent, just that is my experience... You may be right but I had some awful times with 10.4.11 on a Powerbook with Protools 7.3.1!

And I use safari all the time, no problem with it...
