| Mac Moderator | I was told end of August in the uk...... But that probably means its on time in the USA..... Yes it is frustrating that its been delayed so many times, But Tascam were very aware that 2.5 is pretty twitchy at times (especially on XP) and (I'm told) are determined to make it a solid release as Giga's clientbase in general is pretty high end pro, and wouldn't tolerate a flaky app. I have mine on order.. I'll post when it shows up. Al. (back out of the caves) ![]()

I got very tired of the standalone sampler, i prefer integration and ease of workflow. Mind you, i hhave been a LONG time giga user (way back to version 1 of Gigasampler) ... i preached about Giga from the mountain tops, yet i became very disillusioned after Tascams aquisition. Not to mention, it is PC only, very cumbersome to get the audio into a sequencer for editing, and ... computers are much faster and stable than they use to be. So the advantages of Giga are no longer. And GS3 really offers nothing new. It has great features! but nothing that cant be attained from a concise workflow built around various programs. Im very happy with Kontakt, i can run it on the PC's i built for Giga, can run it in Logic on my Mac. It offers great editing (within the app). The streaming is AS good as Giga (just recently it has come to parity with giga, and is not voice limited), it offers tons of traditional sampler features that giga never had, etc. Sure, i may get GS3 (6months to a year after release, wait for the bugs to get squished). But after having Kontakt, i cant imagine going back to a standalone. -Wolfie

Thread Starter | I refuse to buy Gigastudio 3.0 after the delays on that product and the DM-24 firewire card. Tascam lost me as a customer. The Native Instruments stuff looks really good to me now ![]() |

At the same time, I continue to be tempted by GS 3.0's specs, and think that the arrival of this app will change the minds of many of those who have 'moved on' (given of course that it ever arrives). Killer functionality trumps spite everytime (and great libs help too...) Does the latest version of Kontakt provide integrated convolution that is tied to instrument constuction (as GigaPiano II allegedly is?) Will it offer its own set of intelligent midi rules? And, as a practical question, will Kontakt work with a non-VST host (I use Sonar) -- without a wrapper? I haven't yet decided which way to go, but Tascam is making it harder and harder to argue their case every day...

Thread Starter | I hear ya. I do love my DM-24. Giga is sure to be awesome too. I don't mind the Giga delays as much as the firewire card delays, because I bought the board because of the card and it is so integral to my setup. I ordered NI Komplete 2 which is a hell of a deal for those of us that have one NI product already ($499 upgrade right now). I have the old gigastudio 32, maybe I'll consider it when it comes out. But, I'll probably just buy something else at that time. Now, what is going to replace the firewire card (other than motu)...hmmm an RME solution somehow I guess |
