yeah, these are the critical settings. i also keep it in multi-band mode for small eq adjustments. i use the vintage warmer most often on electric guitars - both clean and distorted. btw, i do not like their presets...

Vocal comp.

Blows away a lot of hardware for this purpose.

YMMV.

Ceiling

PSP needs to make a better manual for Vintage Warmer. This is my favorite compressor, but I have yet to really understand how it works.
I did not think that ceiling had to do with output gain. (In response to a couple posts above.)
It works more as a limiting amount, no? For example, if you put it at -2dB, your new ceiling is 2dB lower. The more negative you go, the more you are limiting. Then you couple that with the multi-band settings and the high/mid/low saturations in the past. For example, you could only have that ceiling for signals below 100Hz.

BTW. Check out the PSP forum. There are a few very helpful posts in there on Vintage Warmer and what the release ratio means, etc.

That's hilarious ROFL. Someone here came across this thread and called me in to read your quote. Here's another slant you might not be aware of

"Some say that Democrats can actually pick up a turd at the clean end ... "
Sorry dude, I dunno if that's true though, so I cannot authenticate or refute that assertion -

What would be the proper settings for the rear panel, if I was just using the "cd mastering" pre-set?

Not an engineer, but just wanna polish up our tracks.

Thanks in advance

another variant:

you can't polish a turd but you can roll it in glitter

VW was the first "proper" 3rd party plug in I purchased many years ago- Craig Anderton gave it a big thumbs up and I'm glad I took the plunge!

It's a great piece of gear, and I just started using it again after a bit of a hiatus from it. I now have it placed on my Master Bus using one of the many mix/master settings as a starting point. It's got some simple and effective EQ, adds a healthy bit of gain (which I always like to dial back some), and glues everything together nicely.
