Pro Tools Mac Question/ Problem

Hey guys,
forgive me if this isnt in the right forum, but here's the problem.
I had a power outage the other day, mac was on, no tools, no session. In any case since then my mac has obviously reset (default screensaver etc) but tools wont loan.
Did a clean un-install, trashed prefs etc. The icon bounces, like its about to loan for about 20 seconds, then nothing.
Any ideas? It would be much appreciated.

thanks guys!

J

Have you ensured that your version of OS X and Pro Tools are compatible? Pro Tools is almost NEVER compatible with the latest version of OS X (whatever that happens to be), and most people who try to use it on an unsupported version experience a bounce and then nothing.

the digidesign website is pretty clear on what versions work, but you do have to hunt for it.

Hi, you may have already sen this from checking out the last post, but you probably just need a pre-binding script, a little patch for not-so-compatible OS's. You can download them from digidesign and it takes about five minutes, tops.

Unless you restored to Leopard, but let's not even think about that.

the bouncing icon thing has been caused in the past by using software updater to upgrade. I've fixed it before by downloading the latest combi updater, and installing that over the top.

PT works fine on the latest version of PT 10.4.9 BTW - it's only Leopard that it doesn't work on (certified anyway) at the moment.

Might not be the answer to your problem since it wasn't working immediately after the restart. What hardware do you have, and does it work under Coreaudio? if not, you may have a hardware issue....is it recognised by the computer (look at about this mac)?

Yeah great advice. Upgrading shouldn't be a problem if you check specs first - if I'd never upgraded I'd still be on OS9. Until the OP answers the follow up questions, there's no way to tell if this is his problem anyway.

im on about the Updates and security updates, im saying this out of experiance and the apple store themselfs said do not update it as it might be not tested with Pro-Tools, im not trying to say im an "expert" but just an idea.

please help !

Pro Tools 7.3 and 7.4 running on MAC OS 10.4 tiger
It had worked fine for a year and now all the main bars have changed to yellow.
The meter is burnt orange fading into yellow.
Yeah it's ugly and hard to read.
Cant find a mention of this problem anywhere.
Still running tiger on a fairly new macbook pro, checked all color preferences and even changed them around just to see if it would help. Still no change all my other programs are clean. I uninstalled and re-installed and then upgraded to 7.4, still no change!
Has anyone else ever seen or heard of this??

I had that problem with Leopard with some of the AIR
instruments .. but once I updated them, all was good.

Not the whole PT GUI though .. that is strange.

Did you run the uninstaller first (before re-installing)?

Protools colors

Yes I uninstalled first but did left the plugins folders and re-checked all configuration and so on.
I am just avoiding doing a complete uninstall if I can.

I got it finally and it's so simple, it hurts

In preferences under display you just simply click the millions of colors box and restart... seriously that was it!
I had swithed from thousands to millions a few times and it had no effect while i was already in pro tools. I had apparently switched it back and left it on thousands everytime before a restart.
I have never been so happy to see the default colors before in my life!!!
