Best brick wall limiter VST?

I've been trying all the free ones but I'm ready to buy one or two. What is popular and what is good bang for the buck?

Ya I'm trying right now and it's working pretty good but I'm also trying the Antress Modern Limiter and it's working great.

Hi, Lagerfeldt. You seem very picky (in ta good way) about limiters and compressors benchmarking.
Have you tried the very cheap JB Barricade Pro vst plugin ?
I have read good reviews about it, and the guy isn't quite a newbie in sound processing...

How does it compare to the aforementionned payware products ? I have A/Bed it with the Waves Art FInalPlug, and couldn't spot any difference (with a -8dB threshold on each, everything else disabled on the Barricade).

Best VST limters would have to be:
Sonnex Oxford limiter
Flux Pure Limiter
PSP Xenon

if used right, the L3-LL and the L316 can be great too...

I love Epure but I found the Flux limiter to be very audibly pumping compression and I couldn't get it to stop...It's a tone, but I think maybe for dance music or something.

I use UAD precision mostly. Ozone is also good, but requires understanding the controls.

Some of the free VST stuff is surprisingly useful, but really not many BW limiters to choose from. Here's one that will surprise anyone that can find it though, Palancare Brick. It's a limiter/clipper. It can really get up there RMS wise with the big boys, yet still retains unsmeared thump in the lows, albeit with a little thinning (like a lot of he $$ plugs...). Pretty spartan gui and the gain amount seems to have no relation to decibels, but .......

if you're still open to freebies, try TLs Maximizer. I've driven it pretty hard at it still limits. I think it's a brickwal limiter essentially. If it eats up too much CPU, turn off the "auto" feature in the top menu area. CPU use drops dramatically after that and it still works. I'm not even sure what "auto" does since it isnt necessary for limiting use. TLs also has a built in 3 band semi-parametric EQ which comes in handy at times.

+1! I like the UAD Precision the best, but it's not really VST. It does work with VST though!!!!

+1 For the JB Barricade Pro .... you cant go wrong for the money. and its nice to use when you cant use the UAD precision due to it running out of processing power.

+1000, I use that a lot from tracking to mastering. I even use it when I am auditioning synths...keeps me from blowing out speaker and headphones

I have not used one that's better than the Loudness Maximizer part of iZotope Ozone 3. Never have I been able to lift gain so transparently and so much without audible artifacts.

Surprising as it sounds, the Adaraz Slam is a pretty good brickwall limiter-- of course I think the Sonnox Oxford is the very best- but I love the Adaraz and use it about 45% a bit-- only 2nd to the Sonnox Oxford. Just my taste...

I really like my PSP Xenon. It's surprisingly tweakable, but also can be very, very simple out of the box.

Best brick wall limiter VST?

Personally I am very impressed with the Brainworx' bx_BL M/S limiter. You can try a demo for 30 days.

I don't get it. I tried the flux pure limiter as per a lot of praises in kvr and I was just not impressed. Sounded really bad with my kicks.

it's absolutely awful... i tried that one with excitement per Lagerfeldt's recommendation, and i couldn't think of a worse modern limiter in plugin format.. I was surprised that our opinions could be THAT different, as usually I agree with much of what he says. Then again, i think pretty much the entire flux range is overhyped, unintuitive, expensive yet average.

Pro-L and Elephant 3 just absolutely destroy the flux one to smithereens. Heck even Ozone 4 does.

I also pretty much detest fx-g and the brainworx one, so realise I am in the minority there.

No, you aren't. I am yet to find one software limiter that suits all needs.

Can't go wrong with Waves L2.

The limiter in iZotope Alloy is decent enough, and I really like iZotope Ozone on the master bus.
