| retarded Logic 8 and MPC2000XL midi questions I want to use my mpc2000xl as a drum pad for logic but I'm having trouble. Yes I have R all of TFMs. I wanted to try this out to see if I can sell my MPC for the MPD24 and simplify my set up I can sync the MPC to MTC but it will not recognize notes from the drum pads to play the software drum instruments I understand this must be incredibly easy... please help me out. I think the problem might be setting up the MPC with the Audio MIDI setup because it protools doesn't recognize the midi notes either. Using a Digi003 with L8 thank you so much for your help

| I use Live 7 but might be able to help: 1. figure out what midi notes you need to send to play logic's instruments, then create a program on the 2000xl that sends out those midi notes. 2. Load that program and connect a midi cable from out A on the MPC to midi in on the 003. 3. Cursor down to the 'off' in the lower left hand corner of the mpc screen next to 'drum1.' Change 'off' to '1A'. Then hit Open Window and change 'soft thru' from 'as track' to 'omni A'. Now the mpc will transmit the midi notes as you play the pads into the 003. Hope this helps. By the way, I would suggest keeping the 2000xl, since from what I've read the pads are better than the mpd24, and then you always have the stand-alone functionality of your mpc which can be very nice. kirb |

| thank you for the in depth reply I wish I could say now that it is working great now, but it is not. I have the older MPC2000XL so the steps weren't exactly the same. I'm getting closer but this is a bit weird... I hooked up a yamaha midi keyboard and it worked fine right away. Didn't have to use the Audio MIDI utility or anything. Just made a new midi track, put all inputs on and there it was a bouncing green rectangle. I have checked, double checked and rechecked to make sure I had the right midi out on my mpc going into the Digi003 midi IN which i know is working fine because of the test with the yamaha. I would say that the midi on my MPC must be broken but I've successfully synced it via MTC. So I'm thinking that it's got something to do with my MPC although I've tried changing nearly every parameter related to note and midi info AAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaarggggghhh!!!

| playing notes has NOTHING to do with MTC. The MPC sends out notes when you fart |

| Go to the main page. At the bottom left, there is a " S: " .Turn the value wheel till this says "MIDI" then choose a midi channel to the right of it. - If pro tools still does not show a midi recieve signal then the problem is with your interface or cable. |

and a big thumbs down to the Akai manual for not making this more obvious in the midi with outboard section of the manuals
