5.1 Surround Signal Chain (mics to dvd)

What sort of path are people using to get their surround mixes finalized? I have a dvd burner.

I am wondering because I did a live recording using a surround mic set up. I would like to know if any of the big sequencers allow for surround finalizing. I've seen that DVD Studio Pro has AC3 and Dolby Digital, should I just go this route, or can I use, PT, DP, or Logic?

Thanks
Aaron

You may want to do more research on the topic.

First, DVD Studio will ENCODE 5.1 material - convert the 6 discrete channels to an encoded stream for playback. It includes one encoder, Dolby AC-3.

Of course to mix in 5.1 you need the monitoring and a DAW or Digital Mixer that supports 5.1.

Cubase, Nuendo, DP, ProTools, Logic all support it ... and there are possibly others.

5.1 Channel Surround Sound: Up and Running by Tom Holmann is a great book to get you started.

I hadn't heard of the book, but it looks like Logic Pro has some really good surround capabilities, I think I'm going with that for my 5.1 mixing, thanks....

I use both Logic ad Nuendo (on macs). But i prefer to mix 5.1 material in Nuendo. Better panner, customization, routing and dedicated 6-channel plugins.

Dont get me wrong, i love Logic, but simply for composition/production. Not mixing.
