Capacity of PCs &| Macs for VIs and Plugs

Hello:

I've decided the time has come to retire my circa 2000 Mac Dual G4 450 MGz running DP 4.61. Its just too much of a creativity/productivity killer using any kind of VIs.

Could DAWers please share their computer hardware and software specs, and the VI and Plug capacities they have been able to achieve? I want to run my buffer at 64 and no higher then 128. I.e. how many BFD instances can you run simultaneously at a buffer of 64 on your rig? Please share your information on your configuration and info like: CPU, OS, DAW Software, RAM and types and number of simultaneous VIz, etc.

Right now I'm considering switching to a PC with Cubase 4. Never thought I'd see the day I'd go from PC to Mac. A big reason is that the boxes ADK builds, and others, have three PCI slots for my 3 UAD cards. I'm not to keen on dropping $1500 to replace them if I went with a new Mac. My plan is to use the PC for a year or two and then probably go back to Mac when the 16+ cores hit and the capacity for 128 GB of memory.

An attractive option is a box from ADK with a 6600 quad overclocked to 3 GHz with 4 gigs of ram. Any advice and info is appreciated.

Thanks,

hotshot

my 2 systems

I have an IMAC G5 1.8ghz with 768 ram running DP5. I recently mixed 27 tracks with 36 instances of various native plug-ins, mostly waves. I also have a Power MAC dual 2.0 G5 with 1gb of ram. That I have mixed 42 tracks with 40 plug-in instances and there was room for more. All plugs were native. I don't use any VI's so can't help on that topic

Did a session last weekend, logic 8 on a my dual G5 1.8, 2 gigs of ram.

100 audio tracks, 3 exs 24, 3 space designers, and at least 3-2 plugs on each track, a couple of guitar rigs.
