Using GarageBand

o.k. so my buddy and i decided to try to use GarageBand to record our band. We messed around with it for about 3 hours the other night at our youth building and figured out that without having to buy a midi interface i was able to run an aux. cable from a channel on our main sound board directly into the mac, and it picked up my buddy playing his guitar and we were able to record it, and then switch channels and recorded his vox. my question now is when we decide to record the whole band for my drums, could i take my 8-channel mixer that i use when i play live, plug all my mics into that, then hook that up to the snake, run it to our main sound board, and then put that aux. cable on my channel and run it directly to the mac? to me this makes perfect sense, and would seem to work, but heres a pic if that maybe seemed jumbled lol.
