Pro Tools HD Now Compatible with Leopard
02/11/08

Digidesign is pleased to announce Pro Tools® compatibility for Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) with Pro Tools HD® 7.4.1 software, the first of a phased Pro Tools update release. Pro Tools HD 7.4.1 software provides Mac OS X 10.5.1 compatibility* with Apple’s current 8-core Mac Pro computers (those featuring Intel “Harpertown” processors).

Leopard compatibility for Pro Tools LE®, Pro Tools M-Powered™, other Pro Tools|HD systems, older Intel-based Mac Pro computers, Avid Mojo® SDI, and expansion chassis is expected in subsequent Pro Tools software updates, so please wait until official announcements are made before upgrading your system to Mac OS X 10.5.

This compatibility is only for the new 8-core Mac Pro (featuring the "Harpertown") processors.

In other words....jerks like me with my prehistoric 4 core Mac Pro with the Intel Xeon processors that I bought over 6 long months ago (older Intel based Mac Pro as Digidesign calls it!) isn't compatible yet!

Basically they just made my 6 month old 4-core Mac Pro with 2 Terabytes of hard drives and 9 Gigs of RAM an obsolete piece of $hit!!

Now I guess I'll have to wait 'till they release a compatible version of Protools for my computer.......my bad for being totally behind and not throwing my 6 month old Mac Pro in the garbage and replacing it with the new 8-core the moment they came out!!!!!!!! What a bunch of clowns !!!fuuck

In all fairness.. this was released for those folks who bought brand new Macs who wouldn't be able to run Pro Tools at all without this update. If you check out the list of non-compatible plug-ins which need to be updated - you should be thankful you have an older Mac.

Really doesn't matter till we wait for the last company in the race to cross the finish line. And the company in last place is.....Waves!

This is exactly what we pay WUP for. Excellence!

Everyone knows the hazard of updating without third party support. Congrats Waves, you've won the raspberry award for "best of updates" for 2007/2008!

Digi is always a bit conservative when it comes to stating compatibility so I am pretty sure it'll work with the older Macpros too.Keep an eye on DUC .

I'm always quick to jump on the anti-Waves train, but this post - the 3rd one - is ridiculous. Can you keep this IMPORTANT thread on-topic please.

And Apple released it's 10.5.2 update today as well. I feel like I'm in some type of software purgatory. No use upgrading to PT 7.4.1 on my Dual Core Xeon, and can't upgrade the OS because PT may not be compatible with 10.5.2 when Digi's finally ready to drop it's Xeon compatibility update for 7.4.

joy.

Though thanks for the heads-up, Tony.

So I'll repeat this cause it is important and on topic;

Everyone knows the hazard of updating without third party support. It can make things unstable as hell. Remember updating to 7? You try running it without updating your plugs? sheesh What a ridiculous, off topic observation.

I'll gladly get rid of your crappy computer for you. Free of charge even. I'll make sure it's "properly" disposed of and everything.

PM Me.
