Trident Ninety Computer Issue

We have an old Trident Ninety console which connects to the control computer via four ISA cards. The problem is the only standard PCs around that have those kinda slots are old worn out 486s and some Pentium1s. The software obviously runns on DOS and there are no upgrades since the console manufacturer is no more :P
Since we're stuck replacing those old buggers all the time, we need to upgrade to some state of the art stuff.
One option would be to get a new server computer with backplane ISA slots.

To my question:
-Would that work? Would the cards still get recognized by the software even if they're on the backplane (dunno if that's an issue at all)?
-Would there be an issue running DOS on a state of the art Core2Duo PC?
-Can i make it work in XP.. maybe with DosX?

Backplane wouldn't be an issue. Although MBs are still available with 4 ISA slots.

Is it that the old DOS machines are just physically giving up on you? Old computer hardware is a drag. I've thrown out more than I care to think about.

Not familiar with the Trident software, so I have no idea how it would run in any sort of emulation environment. I guess you could get a newer/newish type computer and just boot it into DOS. LOADS of P3 and early P4 machines out there that people will just give away, its worth trying.

I don't think there are. At least my hours of googling and phoning around couldn't spot any new MBs with more than 3 ISA slots. Even those are damn rare.

I'm just amazed that a 90 is still going. I was at a studio in the early nineties and we installed one of the first ones in the states. The guy that wrote the software is named Mike King in case you wanted to try and hunt him down for help in the future. Good luck with it.

Mixing ITB? Just because you're not good at it, doesn't mean it sucks.
