How to run Windows programs on my Mac??

i have a MB Pro running cubase 4.
i want to be able to run cubase SX for PC, to be compatible with a friend of mine.

is it possible to run cubase 4 for os x, as well as cubase sx for PC using my mac using bootcamp?

furthermore, can i have two versions of cubase on the same computer...one on os x and one on windows??

To install Windows XP Home or Pro, you need a fully licensed retail disc with XP including SP2.

Boot Camp will partition an XP volume for you and then when you boot up,
you'll be able to select either your Mac OS X drive or your Windows XP drive.

Those are the basics.

You really need to watch your total disc space on your hard drive if you do this.

Highly recommend a good fast external drive like the Western Digital My Book Pro.

so the two versions of cubase would not affect eachother in any way because of seperate hard drive partitions?

also, does anyone know how the windows licenses work..how many computers can one copy of windows xp be installed on at once?

The two versions would effectively be on separate computers.

I haven't followed what's available lately.

There may be an older version or Boot Camp still available for Tiger
at Apple/Support/Downloads.

Don't know the version number, sorry.

One thing, if you do plan to run Windows, I recommend keeping that partition
as a dedicated OFF LINE volume.

That way you don't need to bog it down with anti-junkware apps or worry about
typical Windows security issues.

Limit ALL your online work to your Mac OS X drive.

also possibly consider running Windows on a virtualization platform, like SwSoft's Parallels or VMware Fusion.
personally i use VMware Fusion because it can take advantage of more than one processor [or processor core i think] and has generally been better accepted and reviewed.
running virtualization software instead of BootCamp is the way to go i think.
i will echo the comments made above regarding the importance of keeping your main, production, computer separate from whatever you may do for fun or in your free time.
currently i run Solaris via VMware Fusion on my Leopard-based Macintosh, and that computer is not a recording system yet as PT is not 10.5 compatible [when will they make it so??] and use my older, Tiger-based Mac for PT and all recording tasks. that computer, the recording one, i keep disconnected from the internet.

I'd try Crossover for Mac, been using that for a few months with Wavelab, LAME mp3, and a couple smaller windows apps. It creates a bottle (or kind of like a Solaris container if you will) that makes a virtualized environment.

Never tried Cubase on it though, and tried my FL Studio that I keep on my HP laptop but never figured out a way to do my reg key. When you run VMware of Vbox type programs is they share resources, with Crossover it runs it like its an OSX native app.

Either that or go the bootcamp route.
