Lightbulb PT 7.4 osx, mac inel i mac monitoring delay help ?

Hello folks !

Now i know that pro tools delay compinsation is zero for us le users....
but i was wondering if there are some things i can do to solve a latency issue a bit....

I have spidif stereo outs going to a central station, which the cans are being fed by....I am getting a lot of latency in the headphones, I did try low latency monitoring and it really didnt do much of anything.

Is there any decent solution besides buying HD that i can do to at least minimize this so my clients dont have a nervous break down LOL

thanks in advance

Turn off the plugins while you track?

I ditched my LE system for the exact reasons you mentioned.

I use a Apogee Duet with Ableton 7 + Logic 8. Both have plug-in delay compensation. The Duet maybe too small for your needs, but the Ensemble is just as nice for a bit more money.

i know, i was never a big logic fan but they have come a long long way now with ver 8....damm even cubase has delay comp..LOL and prob every other program as well ...

its more a portability thing i guess, and being so use to everything software wise for years, its a tough transition...

What interface are you using?

And have you set output 1 and 2 to feed the spdif output?

try to set the hardware-buffersize as low as possible during tracking. max. 128samples. if you get an error that your drive is too slow, make some channels inactive. for tracking vocals, it's not necessary that all 28 drum-ambiance tracks are active.
defrag your harddrive from time to time and don't use more than 2/3 of its space.
like this it should work.

cheers, ho-fi

p.s. buy a hd

i am using a digi 002, master outs 24 bit/48k spdif into spdif in on central station for monitoring, i also use a digimax fs for the extra 8 ins via lightpipe...thats the main setup....

lower the buffer is a good idea 2 thanks ill lower the buffer, kill the plugs and see what happens maybe some improvement ...i will let ya know,

although i have been thinking of maybe going logic and symphony im getting tired of the digi b.s. LOL

Low latency monitoring mode only works on outputs 1 and 2, and it works more than adequately, very minimal i.e. inaudible delay. The channel that is in record must be routed to out 1 and 2, and any plugins on that track are automatically deactivated when it is armed. This means you can keep your buffer high and not have to deactivate pluging on the other tracks. Works fine for me and my clients.

I'm not sure if this is available on the digital outputs though.

Are you able to patch the analogue outputs 1 and 2 into the TRS 1 or TRS 2 inputs of your central station?
