As long as you know it's compatible with your computer, just go with the 5400. I think PC5300 is a mac thing. If you do have a mac, I know that the 5400 and 5300 are interchangeable. PC5300 is usually more expensive than 5400, but pc5400 will work.

Yes, there is a difference in performance, if they are all used on the same front side bus. The pcXX00 number refers to how many GB/s the memory can handle. So pc5400 can handle 5.4GB/s. But, you must make sure that you use the correct memory. Check your processor speed and front side bus. If you pick a memory that is rated to operate up to a higher speed than your CPU can handle, it will only go as fast as the CPU (or the memory correctly rated for your CPU) would go.

Check out Crucial's Website for more info on how to find the right memory for your computer, and what the differences are between the different choices.

I didn't read your original post all to well and probably caused a little bit of confusion with my first reply. There is a difference between pc4600 and the other two types. But the 5300 is the same as 5400 because the math that manufacturers do is rounded either up or down as far as speed goes. the actual speed of the ram is 5336. Buy whatever is cheaper and compatible with your laptop.
