Apogee Duet Software Help.

Hi Everybody,

I recently bought an Apogee Duet but I'm having some problems, here's what's wrong:

I got my Apogee all hooked up and I downloaded the software from the Apogee website, but when I click the software installer, it does nothing, it's as if I clicked nothing and as a result, I can't use my duet right now.

If anyone has any ideas on how to get my duet up and running, you would be my hero.

Right now I'm running a 2.16 GHz Macbook with OS X 10.4.11 and 3 GB ram.

Thanks.

My duet didn't come with a CD, it only came with a note about going to the website to download the driver. I sent a message to Apogee, hopefully they can help before I defecate on my computer for no reason at all! (I just want to use this thing, I bought it because of its simplicity, and it doesn't work!)

Try installing without the Duet connected. If the installer still doesn't launch, try launching Console in your Applications->Utilities folder and see if you're getting anything in there when trying to launch. Sometimes if the installer is crashing on launch it will output a debug message here....this might be useful for the Apogee team to help you figure out what is going on.

Also, did you download: Duet_Software_Installer_OCT07.dmg ?

Good luck!

Thanks for telling me about console.

I found out what is wrong, but I don't know how to fix it, whenever I try to run the installer, I get this message:

Installer[253] Unable to load nib file: PagedInstaller, exiting

I'll send out some e-mails to apple and apogee and hopefully get my computer working again. It's so frustrating to get a new piece of gear and not be able to use it.

Oddly, it sounds like your installer package is corrupt or something. Delete the .dmg from your comp and re-download from Apogee. Then repair your permissions with Disk Utility and restart/or re-login to your account. This type of thing rarely ever happens.

I just repaired permissions and restarted my computer, but installer is still broken, I think I'll have to back up my files and then reinstall the OS If I can find the discs (probably MIA).

Thanks for all of your help.

Hmm, I wonder if any .pkg or .mpkg installers will work while you're in that state. Would be interesting to try another installer of something just to see if it launches. That would tell you if it's your system or the package.

If another installer works, I would try downloading the image again from Apogee.

If that doesn't work and you have the means of reinstalling your OS, I personally would go that route. It's a pain in the ass but then you know you're on a good config and troubleshooting stuff like this can be hit or miss....if it's miss it's hours wasted and you end up reinstalling anyways.

One tip if you have the drive space....is start with a fresh install of the OS, get all your apps installed and everything setup the way you like it. Then make an image of the drive. Then whenever you find yourself in a situation like this....you can just restore from the image of your drive and be back to a known good state with all your apps installed. Takes some of the sting out of starting over.

Good luck, SO annoying for something like this to crop up right when you get a new piece of gear. Enjoy the Duet, it's friggin' awesome.

Hmm, could try instalilng from a command line.....

1. Mount the Duet_Software_Installer_OCT07.dmg file
2. In Applications->Utilities, launch Terminal.
3. From the prompt type: sudo installer -pkg /Volumes/Duet_Software_Installer_OCT07/Duet_Software_Installer_OCT07.mpkg/ -target /
4. It will ask you for your password for your system account, enter it and hit return.

It should then do an install bypassing the UI of the installer....it'll sit there for a bit, then you'll see output that says:

installer: Package name is Duet Software OCT07
installer: Upgrading volume mounted at /.
installer: The upgrade was successful.
installer: The install requires restarting now.

Maybe try this and see if that works.....but it sounds like you'll still have an underlying issue of some gremlin floating around in your system....but this might get you up and running without a full reinstall for now.

I'll try that, I was also thinking of using this program called Pacifist to replace the installer files has anyone ever used it?

Well I found the install discs so I might just reinstall the OS, it's no big deal since the only thing on my computer are episodes of Sealab2021 which I have on DVD anyway.

I got it installed using console, thanks alex! But I should probably still fix this so I can install things in the future.

It sounds like you got it going... but I wanted to mention that the Duet install instructions specifically say to leave the Duet unplugged while you install the software, and plug it in after the reboot. I just installed mine yesterday, I just downloaded the installation package from Apogee's site and it installed with no issues..

Reading instructions? No way, I prefer my way of trying to figure it out myself followed by lots and lots of profanity.

CAN ANYONE HELP

I purchased a Apogee Duet just yesterday and I experienced a problem when I plug my instrument in the inputs. When I either plug in my guitar or bass into the instrument inputs, I hear the instrument but also a buzzing noise. The noise is relevant to the noise a amp gives out when a instrument is plugged in. Does anyone know what the problem is or can help? Thanks!

I have the exact same problem!
What OS are you using? What DAW? version?

I'm running Logic Pro 7.2.3 on a Dual 1.8 G5 running 10.4.11

It sounds like intermittent clicking and popping noises. At first I thought it was a buffer setting issue but even after changing that I still got the same noises.
Duet has firmware v1.2 and Maestro is v1.6.23

Any ideas anyone before I start harassing the Apogee folks? thanks
