EastWest instruments - Leopard compat when?

Any ideas? I have to use Leopard because I had to buy a MacPro and none of my EastWest instruments will work. EWQLSO is one of my most-used instruments.

EW has said that the PLAY version of QLSO will be released soon (maybe a NAMM suprise??), which will make it UB and Leopard compatible.

If you can't wait you can pick up a used copy of Kontakt 2 to use QLSO.

I didn't realize Kontakt 2 was good with Leopard. True?

Also very interested if that works. Bought a new iMac with Leopard and want to run QLSO and Hardcore Bass, if necessary with Kontakt 2. I often see it used for reasonable prices.

I have Hardcorebass as well and an intel mac.

I tried the demo of Kontakt 3 and it gives me an error about not being able to open the library files because they havent been registered..

I cant describe just HOW registered these samples are... Trust me... They are authorized/registered/validated/authenticated on so many levels.

I dont get it..

I even found an article that tries to fix the problem, but it didnt fix it for me of course.

Is this the article you followed?:

EastWest Soundsonline FAQ - Kontakt 2 or 3 in Leopard is telling me that my Kompakt/Intakt library is not registered even though it is, what should I do?

I had the exact same problem as you, but following the instructions in this note worked perfectly for me; I'm running all of my EastWest libraries in Kontakt on 10.5.1 on a new Mac Pro. If it doesn't work for you, contact both EastWest and NI support - I've found them very helpful and responsive.

Also: yes, the latest version of Kontakt 2 (2.2.4) works fine in Leopard.

that's the one does it matter that my samples are stored in an external drive? Also, they are referring to Hd/user/username/library right? Cause they don't exactly type it that way but I think that's what they mean.

Also wonder if having the demo of kontakt 3 makes a difference

It shouldn't matter where your samples are stored; mine are on a second drive (though it's not external)

Yes, they do mean the file in HD/Users/username/Library/

It wouldn't surprise me if you can't load third-party libraries in the demo version of Kontakt 3, so I imagine that's most likely your problem; drop NI an email and ask them. Do you have the full version of Kontakt 2?

I really didn't want to have to buy Kontakt but I have Colossus, Choirs, Platinum Orchestra and Ra and can't use any of them on my MacPro. Seriously thinking of selling them all and getting VSL for strings.... anyone want to buy some unopened and unregistered software?

Any news from NI? I have the Kontakt 3 demo installed, and also wondered if I can use it to playback other libraries from EastWest etc.

EW was more helpful than NI on this one...

by using the PLIST fix (at least I think it was the plist fix) I got the XP library to work, yet the main Hardcorebass library still pops up an unregistered error in Kontakt3..

but for those of you curious, it seems as though Kontakt 3 can run the EW XP library fine... I dont know if this means universal working with all other libraries, but at least one seems to open and play fine.

On my PC, I can open and play any East/West library with Kontakt as long as the app for that library(Kompakt etc.) is installed and registered on the same machine, otherwise I get the same error message.

Goliath replaced Colossus and is already released in PLAY format which is Intel Mac compatible. More info here (upgrade is available also) ...
Quantum Leap Goliath :: Virtual Instruments :: Sounds Online

Not only that, but PLAY (from version 046 and later) can access all of your system ram on 64-bit Macs, even with 32-bit hosts, check out this link ...

EastWest Soundsonline FAQ - How do I utilize all of the Memory on my computer with Play? (Mac)

Symphonic Orchestra PLAY is close to release, more info here ...

A Sneak Peek at the PLAY version of Symphonic Orchestra - Soundsonline-Forums

The other PLAY conversions are in development.

If you use our instruments with Kontakt 3, make sure you have the latest update which fixed an earlier problem NI had.

Cheers,

Sorry for my ignorance... from the way you write this post I assume you are an official EastWest representative? Then I would like to ask one question about what you say about "the other PLAY conversions". Will ALL exisitng Kontakt/Kompakt/Intakt player instruments be converted? I am especially keen on Symphonic Orchestra Silver - which I know now is close to release - and Hardcore Bass XP. Any confirmation (or even a SMALL hint on a roughly guessed release date) for Hardcore Bass XP?

Thanks for any info!

Heiko,

We gave up trying to estimate release dates, we were obviously hopeless at it as others will confirm, I can only tell you SO will be released in the next quarter. HCB is likely to be second half of 2008, maybe sooner.

Converting Symphonic Orchestra to PLAY was no easy task, it had to be completely re-programmed and overall it's been a four year project for me.

Cheers,

- DR

Thank you lots for the answer! Well, I assumed that release dates could hardly be announced, but the little clue is already very helpful. Most of all, I am very happy to read you are definitely converting Hardcore Bass. Cheers!

I'm still waiting for PLAY for HardcoreBass and it's XP expansion.. I have been having limited success with the expansion working in a Demo of Kontakt (which closes itself every 20 minutes or so) But the other library still doesnt work..

I'm hoping that the PLAY version will remedy my issues. Assuming it comes out any time soon!

A little update... I have both libraries working in kontakt now, still the demo (there are actually TWO different .plist fixes, I didnt know this)

Still no sign of PLAY for HCB... I hate having my bass drop out every 15-20 minutes... I dont think I want to buy the crossgrade for Kontakt though if I will get PLAY for free...
