Budget computer needed, my budget $500.

Hi,
Ok, so Ive got approx $500 to put toward my computer build, can it be done?

I already have a Delta 1010, Windows XP, and two hard drives(80gb, & 120gb I believe). Im not sure the rpm of the hard drives, I'll have to pull them from storage tomorrow. Im looking into Reaper, and M-Powered(both of which should not be included into my $500 budget).

This build will be used only for music production(mixing, editing, effects, etc..) and I cant imagine ever needing more than 24 tracks.

I dont need the newest technology, Im more interested in tried, and true.

So anyone have any suggestion?

I recently upgraded my system for 350 dollars delivered from New egg. It included a new Abit motherboard, Core duo, 2 gigs of ram, and a new dual dvi video card. So your extra 150 could go for a 50 dollar power supply, 50 dollar cheapy case, and a 40 dollar dvd/cd burner.

2.66 mhz core duo processor $189.00 Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - Retail

abit motherboard $90.00 Newegg.com - ABIT IP35-E LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

2 gigs of DDR2 800 ram $45.00
Newegg.com - GeIL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail

Coolermaster 460w power supply $40.00 Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power Plus RS-460-PMSR-A3 ATX12V V2.3 460W Power Supply 115/ 230 V RoHS, CE, FCC, TUV, cUL, RoHS - Retail

ASus Dual head video card $29.00 Newegg.com - ASUS EN6200LE/TC256/TD/64 GeForce 6200LE 256MB(64MB on Board) 32-bit DDR PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail

Rosewell computer case $27.00 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811147048

Lite on DVD/CD burner $27.99 Newegg.com - LITE-ON Black 20X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 20X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache IDE 20X DVD±R DVD Burner - OEM

Total with tax and shipping to LA from new egg is $508.94

You could go Pentium D which is what I have and save probably 50 bucks and still have a decent dual core 3.2 ghz machine. And that would pay for a mouse and keyboard. Your still going to need a monitor though.
