Thread Starter | Logic 8 Plugins? How are they? EQ, Comp, etc.. Anybody using the plugins that come with Logic? I have a feeling the Reverb & Delay are pretty awesome based on the audio samples.. But what about the EQ & Compressor...and the other toys? and how do they compare to the stock Digi plugins? I don't own any third party plugins, so the Logic ones will be all i use for a while. I'm about to buy a new Macbook, and I can't run Pro Tools on it since they haven't done an update. I am also using an Mbox and it sounds blah... I'm thinking this might be an opportunity to finally go Logic and get an Apogee Duet. Any thoughts? cheers.

| The compressor has been improved in Logic 8... Some say the eq has as well. They are usable for sure. Logic comes with some nice tools as well... Correlation meter and phase scopes. The delay is great and the reverb can be metallic at times but all that can be fixed with some tweaking. At one point logic's stock plugins were the best bundle over other daws... I don't know about now but it's up there.

| I think that the combo of Logic 8 and the Duet will keep you pleasantly engaged for a good while. The compressor is much improved in L8--a search on the topic should yield posts about L8 plugs. I was in the market for a new one (owning L7 and PSP's Vintage Warmer), but when L8 came out it definitely cooled my heels. Much more shape and less push. I haven't compared the EQ to anything but the new Delay Designer is great. In general, the plugs in Logic are very strong. The EQ might be the thing that people say is the weak link, but it's fine for general use. The overall sound quality is better in L8 (than in 7) as well. If you use virtual instruments or synths you should enjoy Logic's copious extras. As far as quality, Logic's plugins, synths and instruments are very well thought out and very usable. Not likely to compete with top of the line boutique software VIs or plugs sold individually, but certainly good solid tools. Overall much more pro than "sumer". For $500 you can hardly beat Logic. Paired with a Duet, I think you will find that it competes favorably with a similarly priced PT investment. (Flame suit on.) Have fun. |
