| You cannot connect that drive to an Imac, but you are not stuck to 180Gb, there are plenty of external FIREWIRE drives which have more space. This is an eSata drive. The Imac has no eSata connector. And installing one is no option. That's why it's an Imac. But firewire is fast enough for most duties, except for HD video editting and huge trackcounts. You might want to look at these drives: http://www.lacie.com/us/products/product.htm?pid=10894 or http://www.glyphtech.com/site/products/gt050q.html http://www.glyphtech.com/site/products/gt062.html |

| YES. You can definitely put a 500GB SATA drive into an iMac (assuming you mean a new gen Intel or G5 iMac that uses SATA drives). In fact I just did that about 2 hours ago for a customer. No problems there. Just be aware: doing so will void the warranty on your unit (if applicable). You must have an Apple Authorized Technician perform the upgrade to keep warranty status intact. And then, obviously, any hard drive-related problems will not be covered by the warranty either, though maybe by the drive manufacturer's.

| As the above poster says, it's possible to upgrade the internal HD in an iMac. But it is much harder and riskier than it is with a PC. I don't know what your level of expertise is, but see if you're comfortable with this: http://home.comcast.net/~woojo/DFFA5...sassembly.html Also, I don't know what sort of pixie dust Glyph is sprinkling on their 500 gig Seagate Barracuda drives, but you can get a regular one at Newegg.com for $119. |
