Thread Starter | Hardware noise problem :-(((((
I am pretty puzzled at the moment, because I thought I had major issues with my sound card, I had random bursts of noises comming out when I would play vsts through midi in my sequencer. I have looked around a few forums, and found out that it seems to be a common issue with motu 828 mkII, so I figured the problmem was my card. But still I've tried reinstalling my os, installing a different os, drivers, disbling drivers and devises, using different sequencers, pretty much everything, but nothing worked. So today i told my self wtf, I'll try out my onboard 7.1 hd card, and to my fking surprise after a few seconds the thing bursts out with noises. So I guess the fault of my motu, but rather something wrong with my mobo, or one of my hardware components. It's strange because it used to work perfectly fine. If you have any ideas what so ever, I could probably use a few hints... |

Are the internal interface and the MOTU both going into the same mixer or amp/receiver, by any chance? I ask because with the internal interface from my laptop (a non Texas Instruments FW controller) and my own MOTU 828mkII plugged into the same prosumer receiver (into differrent switched inputs, mind you) I got the whirrings and chirpings familiar to those with FW signal contamination issues. (When I put a PCI FW card in my cheapo tower, I made a point of getting one with a TI controller chip.) BTW -- while other Windows users say they get better results with the ASIO drivers -- for me, they're noisy/glitchy and I use WDM/KS drivers, which generally seem to work well for me.

I don't use an analog mixer or a receiver. The firewire is built in to the mobo and it's a TI. I've tried using the ASIO, WDM, MME all of those drivers result in the same thing. I've tried disabling the built in card in bios and in windows, I've tried setting it also to the default device in windows so that it doesn't try to use the motu, I've unplugged and reconnected everything inside my computer, and still the same thing. I'am gonna try to switch to an older graphics card, because I saw on unicornnation that this worked for someone (but that doesn't really solve the issue, and I don't really want to part with my 8800gts, but at least I'll see if that is what's causing it...)
