What is Daisy Chaining on External FW HD for?

Can you connect multiple external fw drives to a single firewire port via daisy chain? Does this slow down the speed?
Would this be the same as (performance wise) hooking them to dedicated fw ports?

Yes, with FW400 up to 16 cables of length ~4.5 meters can be daisychained with no effect on performance or speed. So it is the same.

nice. How many drives can be connected this way? This is ok (performance wise) even for reading/writing audio files when tracking and mixing?
