Advice needed please - Regarding internal Seagate Cheetah drive for older Mac G4

Hi everyone,

Got a problem and I hope you can advise me. I'm running an older version of Pro Tools (Mix Plus 5.1), on OS 9.1, on an older blue G4 (single processor), 400 Mhz (AGP Graphics model). I bought the entire system back in 1999 or 2000. Originally, I had the store (where I bought the system) configure the whole rig for me. Part of the package included 2 internal Seagate Cheetah 18 gig drives (for the audio). But since that time, one of the Cheetah drives died on me (so I simply had it disconnected). I've been using the remaining good Cheetah drive, but I keep running out of space, and it's very annoying, to have to keep backing up Pro Tools sessions, just to make room for new work.

My question is... how do I go about replacing that bad Seagate Cheetah drive? I'm totally clueless about finding out exactly the model number,,, and whether they even make them anymore. What exactly should I be looking for? And do they even make these drives anymore? Or are there any larger internal drives that I could use, which are compatible with my system?

I don't think I could use external drives for audio, since I'm not sure my computer is compatible with Firewire 800. (I am using the older Firewire 400 just for a backup drive, but it's not in "real time").

I still have the original receipt of my purchase (when I bought the PT rig)... and here are a couple of the items on that receipt (though I don't know if those are relevant to the drives):

***************************************

-ATTO Dual SCSI Excel PCI

-68 pin ribbon cable for sony internal AIT

*****************************************

And one final question: Are 2 audio drives absolutely necessary to run my system properly? Or can I get away with only 1 audio drive?

That's about it. Any advice would be appreciated .. Thanks!
