Cubase to logic worth the move?

G'day all

i have been using Cubase 2 and sx3 for little over 5 yrs now and has become like an extension of my brain! however i have switched to mac and now have the option to fondle and flirt with a new DAW namely logic as im in the market for a new interface also and considering the apogee ensemble for integration with logic. I have not used logic before apart from 5.5. Is it worth the change? I incorporate a hell of a lot of vst plug ins alongside recording of vocals guitar etc. Any thoughts or comments from Logic users?

I'm always one for the 'If the wheel aint broke don't fix it' , but seeing as you've switched to Mac i think you should give Logic Studio a go , maybe go down to an Apple shop and have a fiddle and see how it feels for you .....

As far as Logic's ability to run lots of AU's you'll be hard pressed to find any other DAW to get the same amount of instances, even with 3rd party's ... very efficient .

Use both,

I find aranging in logic mutch better than in cubase, editing audio is mutch better in cubase, etc
Make a few tunes in logic to get a feel for it, then u will be familiar with both progs, then just use both. Also throw ableton live in the mix, great for sound design.

I have been using Cubendo for ever. I recently got Logic 8 while using Cubendo at my studio I have been using Logic at home just to try. I have allways liked Cubase/Nuendo the editing, mixing and recording have been very good to me. although I have only had L8 for a few days I am liking how it works and sounds quit a bit. no particular reason for switching, after all these years with Steiny and always hearing a fuss about Logic id figure id try it out for myself. so far I like it.

I use Nuendo, not Cubase, but the new 4.x version has really impressed me. Lots of great improvements that are not flashy, but that you really begin to appreciate as you work.

So if you're still on SX3, I would throw an upgrade to 4.x into your consideration.

I use both - and like both. To me, Cubase is the quickest and most well thought out of all the different platforms. The GUI's for the plugs aren't quite as pretty as Logic's but they are really pretty damn good. The one thing Cubase lacks is a good reverb program. None of this bothers me though, because I use mostly third party plugs for verb and compression anyway. Logic's plugs and samplers are better, but once again, no match for UAD, Ivory, Vienna Strings and the like. Logic 8 DEFINITELY still has some bugs - I'm dealing with a comping bug that's honestly kind of a pain in the ass. Once they get it all worked out, the comping feature will be worth the price of admission. At $499, it might be a no-brainer...

i would wait to hear about user experiences with the upcoming logic update when it's released as to it's stability, etc. otherwise the issues could put you off

I started out with Cubase 4 and loved the ease of use (I am a hardware guy and just wanted something to be basic, easy to figure out, and not get in my way).
Later I tried out Logic and found that it was hard to figure out, had a cumbersome interface, and just generally was not very intuitive to me.

So I'm sill with Cubase with no desire to switch...

Cubase 6 is a much more mature program that SX3 with improved plug ins, work flow, and features. I think you would be very happy with going to 6.
