How to get More then 32 Tracks in Pro tools LE

I know you can get more tracks if you get a DV toolkit or a Production Tool kit.....but is there anyway to buy just more tracks?.......without all the extra shit?

I could swear that I've seen (on ebay) people selling single parts of those kits. I.E., selling just the 48 track upgrade, or just the beat detective upgrade, etc.

Sometimes you can find on ebay or the Digi forum people who are just seling off the Music production toolkit but are keeping the plugins. But it's rare. As long as it's good with Digi, you could also just buy the MPT and sell off the plugs you don't want, keeping only the track count upgrade.

I don't know if you've realized it or not though. There is a workaround for more tracks in LE. Some people do this with the MPT or DV Toolkit so I know it works with those because they do 48 tracks; not 48 voices. I assume the regular 32 track version works the same way in that it uses 32 "tracks" and not 32 "voices". In other words, you have 32 tracks no matter if they're mono or stereo. If so, you can place mono tracks next to each other, then select and move them onto a stereo track. Delete or make inactive the tracks they came from. You now have 2 different mono tracks residing on 1 stereo track. Bus this stereo track to bus 17/18 for example and pan it hard left and right. Since auxes don't really count as tracks to the track limitations, now create 2 mono auxes and set one to input 17, the other to input 18. Use those auxes to mix with and you've just increased your track count by one. Do it as much as you can and you've increased your track count further. Tedious.......but it works in a pinch.

I have PT M-Powered. Just 32 tracks. But like it has been previously stated, I also use Ableton Live rewired to PT. Up to 64 extra tracks!

Not the case. In a regular version of LE (unless this has changed since I got the MPT) it really is limited to 32 voices. So, 16 stereo tracks, and that's it. Only the toolkits use the "track" count limit. The trick mentioned above works great there, however not in a regular version of LE (or M-Powered)

I had the same problem. My solution was Logic8.

For the price i could get 48 track update on PT, I get logic8 with unlimited tracks, lots of good plugin-instruments and good convolution reverb. Fir similar stuff I would had to pay thousands of €s for Digidesign...
...And Logic is more CPU friendly, now I can actually use many software-instruments same time. (I have 2.4ghz iMac 3GB memory)

+ It´s really fun making music/mixing with new program and exploring new plugins and sounds!!! I feel creative again...

Yes. Contact dutchmuzic@mac.com

He will sell the 48-track part of the MPT and that includes the multitrack Beat Detective as well.

Cheers,

Which "trick" are you referring to? The Ableton/Rewire trick does work. I use it all the time with PT M-Powered. The Rewire tracks don't count as voices. And you can have up to 64 mono or 32 stereo Rewire tracks.

I'm talking about the trick in which you use a stereo audio track for 2 different sounds. Then use creative bussing to get those 2 sounds onto 2 seperate mono faders. Not the re-wire thing, which like you said, should work regardless of having either of the toolkits.

For instance, use 2 mics on a guitar cab (let's say it's an SM57 and a Royer R121), record those 2 mics to a stereo track, and keep the stereo track hard panned. Then send that stereo track out to buss 1+2, then create 2 mono aux inputs, 1st aux input would be buss 1 (SM57), 2nd Aux input would be buss 2 (R121). Now you've only used a single track, but you've got 2 different sources on 2 different mono faders.

Again that only works with the toolkit expansions because the limit is 48 tracks, doesn't matter if they're stereo or mono. So you can have 48 stereo tracks, or 48 mono tracks,......or 40 mono tracks and 8 stereo tracks, etc.

Gotcha! I thought that was what you might be referring to but I wanted to make sure.

Considering the cost of Live and the cost of the ebay thing (who knows if that will be upgradable?), combined with the added value of the MPTK (TLSpace, Smack, etc.) I would just get the MPTK and be done with it.

I got the MPTK for half price with a hardware upgrade.

Thanks for the tips on expanding LE tracks, I can say I now effectively have 96 if I jump through those hoops... 100 if I rewire in live lite...
