Help With Sonar 6 Producer Edition

Whats Good everyone? I just got Sonar 6 (i've been using Adobe Audition 2, and just got 3) i like the interface on Sonar, and i figured out everything, EXCEPT how to monitor my vocals from SONAR instead of my EMU 0404 USB, so i can hear it with the effects on it as i record (compression/reverb ect.) And for some reason, when i turn my headphone mix on my EMU to MONO i hear alot of crackling in the right headphone, and this only happens in Sonar, never in adobe. So if someone can help me out, it would be GREATLY appreciated. Peace/blessings.

The crackling is odd... all I can think there is that you have a gain/overload problem somewhere.

With regard the monitoring, you'll find a button that looks kind of like the RSS feed icon (except not likely to be orange unless you changed the color)... sort of like three right parentheses. That's the Input Echo On/Off button. With it on you should hear your source as it comes through the track/channel (and whatever plugs are in its FX bin).

Of course, it's quite likely (especially if you have a USB or FW interface) that the delay from monitoring through the box will be too long to use as a monitor while you're performing. (If you, say, just needed some reverb to give yourself a little confidence -- or whatever it is that people who like to record with 'verb get out of it -- then you could try a blend of Input Echo and the zero or near-zero latency monitoring from your interface.)

Also, of course, monitoring with FX doesn't mean you'll be tracking those FX, so you've still got some flexibility.

thanks, and i dont see how the cracking could be any clipping, im monitoring my vocals at around -12 db, so its no where near clipping. And the monitoring with the effects isn't a big deal at all, i was just curious. Btw, i've messed with that input echo before, i dont really like it lol. But yea, if i could just figure out why its doing the cracking/popping i'd be a happy camper haha. And its weird, it sounds normal even when sonar is running, but as soon as i arm a track to record the cracking starts in the right side of the headphone, then if i turn the MONO swith on my interface off.. then its fine but of course i can only hear it one ear that way.... any and all help is greatly appreciated.

I'm afraid I'm stumped on the crackling.

It's not a feature...

ASIO or WDM?

Whichever driver you are using, try the other. I have Terratec ews88d that just hate WDM and work flawlessly with SONAR 123456 and 7 with ASIO.

Don't push the latency too small for starters.

ASIO buffer size?
also,

Options, Audio,Advanced I/O Buffer Size = 128? Try 256.
Turn down video accelleration 2 ticks. <-- This is big.

No Antivirus or background processes please.

What to they say over at the sonar forum? We are a helpfull group.
