Vocal pitch correction: Pitch Doctor not in the game anymore??

I see a thread asking about the best pitch correction software.
It asks about Melodyne, Waves TUNE, Autotune.
No mention of Pitch Doctor.

And I haven't seen Pitch Doctor mentioned anywhere for quite some time.

I have used Pitch Doctor for several years with very good results.......so I just stayed with it.
Easy to use, good interface, easy to adjust in real time.
Only pain is the delay.............but I just slide the track to compensate while I play with it.

Is Pitch Doctor so far behind the competition now that nobody even considers it as a potential vocal pitch correction tool?

If so, I guess I'll have to try Melodyne out.
(I wouldn't consider a Waves product...............I swore off Waves).

I have PTHD system, but I mix OTB. Pitch Doctor is really the only plug-in I use now.

So I don't follow software developments.............as you can tell.
I am truly ignorant here............as you can also tell.

Just wondering if the technology has passed me by, and I now need to try something new and better.

Thanks for the help.

this may be a great plugin but since it's TDM only (for now) it wouldn't have a great following. i for one like my investment to be secure in that if i change DAW i can use it there too.

soundtoys have a good name and thankfully they have started releasing their stuff for AU and windows which is nothing short of amazing. their stuff is great and i have no doubt that once they release the remainder of their plugins native that people will buy them and start using them.

melodyne on the other hand is incredible and i prefer manual control it gives you as opposed to automated control though it can do that too!

I was ALL about Pitch Doctor since about 1999 and stayed with it until just a few years ago. It still sounds pretty good and it's formant correction was years ahead of Autotune. (Is Autotune formant corrected even now?)

But Waves Tune and Melodyne are just in another league IMHO. I think you really need both to be totally covered - there's things that they both do better than each other.

Thanks for the input.

I will give Melodyne a try.

However, when I go to the Melodyne webpage, I am having a hard time figuring out which product I want.

I am running:
- Pro Tools HD2 (older PCI cards)
- Pro Tools Version 7.2cs1
- Dual 2.7 G5 PowerMac
- OS 10.4.6.

Would I want to buy Melodyne studio 3.x, or just the Melodyne plug-in 1.x?

I'll post a separate thread with this question.

Thanks!

it depends how you want to work really. with melodyne plugin you can work straight in Pro Tools however with melodyne studio you will need to use rewire which is unpredictable in some cases. if you get melodyne studio you get the plugin for free.... other than that, i'd be inclined to go for the plugin for the integration aspect

You wouldn't want to use rewire for the Studio version. The best solution is to export your tracks into Studio stand alone, make all of your adjustments, then reimport the tracks. This includes each track you want to adjust as individual files, and the rest of the mix as a stereo mixdown. The plug in is extremely tedious to use in Logic and Pro Tools since you can't place the playhead from within the plug in window.
