Wink Yeap..Reason 4

Ok...What do you think of reason 4?

(For all you "i love logic 8 and hate R4" this is not for you)
I found reason 4 much better than 3.

- Adding and changin automations is pretty easy by now.
- The whole f8 thing is handy aswell.
- Thor sounds really good (Still..No point to compare to moog. =))
- Groove mixer is nice.
- And new default master suits (ok, no one uses those things) are pretty good.

That whole list is "imho".

What do you slutz think of it...
Not too excited i guess..

I've never gotten in to the sequencing/ mixing side of Reason and don't really have a need for it. As a box of sounds I like it but I've pretty much just used the adapted version.
Propellerheads as a company have come up with some great new inventions that have revolutionized how we work with software (Recycle and Rewire). I find it slightly disappointing that the sound quality of Reason have always been a bit poor and I'm hoping this has been in addressed in 4.
Can you route audio into Reason now?

I'm lovin' Reason 4. I've been a user since 1.0, and what often happens is when they release an update, I'm glued to it for a while and I learn all the new features, modules, sounds, etc. There used to be this stigma regarding that "Reason sound", but that's because many peeps just dial in a preset and go, and then you end up hearing it everywhere, cd's, tv commercials, etc. While some of them are great, there's a lot of tweaking to be done under the hood and therefore 'un-reason-afy' your sounds.

I'm more of a Live and now Logic user, lot of audio and sample mangling, but again, new Reason upgrades are always exciting and tie me down for at least a month or so.

That said, Thor is a blast and sounds amazing, and I can honestly say Reason in general sound just amazing these days, if anything, as a sound module rewired to Logic, PT, Live, whatever. As for the sequencer, it's pretty damn easy to wrap your heard around, and even better and more efficient in 4, regions are created automatically when you record your midi data, as opposed to a bunch of red markers on your timeline (although there was always a way to create regions/blocks before with the pencil tool).

There will never be any audio recording capabilities in Reason, it was said back in V2 in an interview. They stick to one thing and do it well, and I must hand it to them. The upgrades are few and far between, but they work and they always get better. Record audio elsewhere and just use Reason for what it does best.

I'm a Reason 1.0-4.0 user and I love it, too. Used to use Rebirth prior to Reason.

My favorite new feature is the multiple note paths per instrument. That will be perfect for Symphonic sounds (a true violin section is realistic now in one mixer). You can set up 6 or however many notepaths playing whatever under that one instrument. HELL YEAH!

Thor rocks, too, but I haven't gotten a handle on it just yet.

a knock down combination to me is, integrating reason into either live 7 or sonar 7... there are no other synths like malström or thor... both are wicked! and the drum computer is also nice and the most important thing: reason is fun! ...i can easily catch an idea, 2 minutes later i have a drum loop, and the editing within the rex sampler is great. I started out "recycling" samples, and its worth the time.
Maybe everything i did sounded a tiny little bit more dizzy with reason, but every single song i made was somehow "happier" ... hrhrhr

all of the new features make sense to me, and made reason even better. i use it rewired a lot, and got the impression, that when u use the "outs" of the daw it even enhances the sound. i wouldnt bet, but... ya just an impression..

cheers

You could always take a consolidated WAV file of something like a vocal, or guitar part, and load it into the NNXT (or any of the Reason modules that will play a sample). Trigger it via MIDI, and let it play as if it were an audio track. This is what I do when I need to "route" audio (it isn't actually routing) through Reason. I do this for Vocoding frequently.

I'm loving Reason 4. Works great rewired to Live 7. I have no complaints about that setup. I do have a number of VST's, though, mostly from Native Instruments. Sometimes, Reason or those VST's become redundant.

Excellent software - sound quality improved IMO...I use it rewired into Mackie Tracktion 2 and then into a Yamaha 01X. Recommended.

I think there would be problems with reliability if live audio was added - the solution is to record using another program and then load into NN-XT sampler.
Generally I use Tracktion for live audio and NN-XT sampling for effects.

i really like the improvements made to the sequencer.. editing automation is a breeze now.. i've been waiting for thor, or something like it, for the previous two versions of reason..
