Do I really have to type in all my Patches? (logic)

I just got Logic pro and am looking at getting patch names set up. Any insight?

Do I have to type them all up .....again?

I have most converted into midnam files for Pro-Tools...

any way to import the names or use stock setups like free midi or OMS did?

Tanks

There are some pre made environment objects on the installer disc which may cover some synths you have. There's some good stuff at www.swiftkick.com and it may be worth a look at the beta of Soundiver which is a synth editing library package by Emagic.

I have patch names for Virus C and Yamaha Motif ES if that would help you.
What synths are you needing patch names for?

If there's a sounddiver implementation for your needs, all you have to do is select and copy the bank names, then go create an instrument or multi instrument in Logic and paste the names into it.

If you have the patch names as text already, its as easy as copying from said text and pasting them into the multiinstrument's patch list.

Copy and pasting 1000s of patches is better than typing 1000s of patches I guess. While beta testing for an audio software company, someone had put together a converter that took your old OMS lists and converted them into OSX file .MIDNAM format. I was wondering if logic supported that format yet and if anyone had any insight.

Thanks for all the tips!

I just went through and checked sounddiver...they have all of the equipment you listed. I don't know what stage it's in, but you should be able to set it up to pull down your patch names, then copy entire banks at a time.

You don't have to copy 1000 patches. You can copy banks of 128 patches.
Check sonikmatter dot com's 'environments' thread. There might b e environments for Logic already there. Some of your equipment looks familiar from over there.

i was using sounddiver beta on OSX, and it didn't seem to be capable of linking to LOGIC, as in previous versions. Couldn't pull names across into Logic. I don't know if that was just a limitation of the beta version, or if that's indicative of the new OSX release.

Swiftkick used to host several environments. I didn't see a D-550 one though. I imagine anything with an environment programmer would also have the patch names.

You can also check out the very active logic users group on yahoo. Search the archives...someone may've posted one.

Other than that, I feel your pain but when I'm confronted with something like this my inner geek usually resorts to a combination of QuicKeys and Excel.

Just a little flame here

What a PITA!

I have re-typed these freeking patchnames and had to do the XML for Pro-Tools and now back to text only for Logic.......

Freeking Pro-Tools at least shoose to support the MidnamXML format CREATED BY APPLE and now I buy an apple product and have to take apple formatted patch documents and re-create them?

dfegad patch names

There is a little program for OSX that translates OMS to Digital Performer and midmanXML files....

called "cherry picker"

just not Logic straight text.
