Thread Starter | Import Session Data without automation?
I use the "Import Session Data" feature in Pro Tools a lot, especially when mixing whole albums with similar sounds on all songs. It's a great time saver and start point to continue mixing the rest of the songs. Anyway, in TDM there's an option that says "import volume automation and settings", what I'd like to know is if there's a way to import ONLY volume settings and NOT it's automation? I'd be awesome if there is because often I find myself importing the volume settings and that's great but then I have to erase all the volume automation from the previous song. BTW, I'm on OS 10.3.9, Pro Tools TDM 6.9.1. Thanks in advance. |

No you can't just import the volume settings. You can do that, but in order to do that you'd first have to erase the volume automation in the source session, which I wouldn't do. What I would do is, copy the volume automation from the first mix. Set you cursor at a spot where the levels are set the way you'd like. Enable which parameters you'd want to overwrite (command+4) , in this case Volume, but you might import other automation as well and not want to overwrite it, or maybe you have some automation in place in this session already which you'd like to keep. Select the 'write to all' button and hit play for a second. Now all your levels are fixed and from here you can start to tweak a new mix. It seems a lot of steps, but it only takes a couple of seconds. Another option is to set the cursor at a spot where you like the levels, disable the automation, tweak some levels and then 'write to all' or 'write to end'. Also when the automation is off you could also use the snapshot automation feature to write to the whole session, but I believe the other option is faster and easier. |
