Thread Starter | Waves API or SSL?
I do more classic rock flavor type recordings - cubase or logic. Logic's built in stuff is not too bad, but the cubase stuff is mechanical at best. I already have Waves Platinum and V-series. Just looking for a little more flavor. The V EQ's are really nice. The demo for API seems good, but when I replace a few RenComps with 2500's (after the mix is done), I don't sense a huge difference. The SSL and API stuff has been for a while now. Just looking for an update on what others think - now that you have been using them for a while (as compared to initial impressions which are stored in the archives). Thanks for any input. |

i dont work with to much rock, but i've grown to like the sound of the api's over the ssl... never really cared for the v-series to much... i still use the ssl's sometimes but i use the api's on every session

I do a multitude of stuff, I have both sets, but I reach for the SSL stuff more often. I just prefer the sound. However, the G comp doesn't work on everything. It can sound f**ing amazing - but if not, it can just sucks the life out of the material, it's usually one or the other. Sometimes when it fails to add any mojo the 2500 emu. saves the day. I'd say it gets more use than the API EQs in my day to day stuff. |

I demoed both and gotta say that API will give you more mileage. I find that though the SSL stuff is cool, it can get kinda mucky and sorta fuzz things up too much, if you use too many instances over alot of tracks... e.g. using the channel strip across a bunch of tracks like a virtual console. Both are good, but I really dig the 2500 comp. It's nice on alot of things and the eq's are great too. The waves stuff has a nice bite to it but gets sorta shrill in the top end. +3 for API Will buy that suite when I can afford to. I loved the 1073 from the V series, too, but I got the UAD-1 version so I don't need it. |

Right then - thanks everyone. I bit on the API bundle with the current waves special. Agreed, this is GS - will try the SSL bundle when the special for it rolls around again and funds are replenished |
