something like PEAKSLAMMER but for VST

Cubase / Nuendo 4 use VST only (no directX support).

I miss my old peakslammer.. is there something similar?

george.
please explain what peak slammer does ?.
there are several facilities in rpr, some are vst that can be used in other packages.
mebe check out reacomp, event horizon, major tom.
Stillwell Audio - It’s About The Sound ยป Home u might ask for info regarding the two latter as to whether they meet
your needs. and cockos.com re reacomp.
cos i dont wanna mislead you.
in each are quite a few parameters one can adjust.
but whether they meet your needs...mebe just try the demos ?
i know for myself i get things pretty "hot" lol.

while at the stillwell site also notice the spectro n vibe eq plug ins.
some folks find these rather interesting , and u might find a use for em on some things. dunno .

just trying to get some sleep.

Peak Slammer

Peak Slammer works by scaling down any peaks above a given threshold. We call this "slamming". It differs from standard compression in that instead of applying the scaling after a threshold is reached, any peak that exceeds the threshold is scaled down fro the previous zero-crossing to the next zero-crossing. Because the first zero-crossing may have already occurred before the threshold was reached, there is a half second buffer that will be noticeable if used in real-time.

it "was" the shit.. for example a snare drum with too much peak, or a whole drumset with too much transients.. reducing the transients without removing too much snap from the drum..

liked it.. *starts crying*

i wondering if theres a plugin that will just "bus" audio after a certain threshold into a new bus..and u can do with it as u please....forcing u not to use a programs "built-in" compression that has the feature ur talking about. for example, roger nichols spl-izer cuts audio into 3 busses. so it is possible

I'd be really keen to try this if one exists. I use Dominion Signal Modelling Device (free VST) which is a bit like SPL Transient Designer, that lets you control peaks + sustains of your sounds without too much crossover, but it's definitely not what you're talking about.

Without getting totally flamed, if the actual peaks you're dealing with are very short, have you tried just clipping them by a few dbs? I've done this on individual drum sounds in my tracks before, and it can actually be a desirable sound if done tastefully and *not* to the extreme like it would be with say clipping an entire mix.

FLAMED!

J/K - Clipping is great - I always do it. However having some type of audio threshold bus sending thing would be out of this world. The flexibility it would bring in shaping the certain aspects of drums would be unparralel. (No Pun Intended). As far as a frequency splitter goes - sometimes i copy the track 4 times a loud up a multiband compressor with no compression on each (u usually use waves c4)..and solo one of the four buttons on each channel..this is a cheap way to do the frequency version without buying the SPL-Izer

Awesome, nothing beats a good set of free "utility" VSTs.
