PT 7.4 - OTHER than Elastic Audio...?

Besides EA, is there anything else noticeably new about 7.4?

Off the bat, I'm saving a lot of time with the new 'right click' advances. In a group, you can right click instead of control left clicking to solo/mute individually within a group. On insert, right click gives you the drag down options to Bypass, Make Inactive, Auto Safe, or Auto Dialog (chose which functions within a plug in to automate). You can also right click on tracks for "hide", etc. Right click a region- all sorts of options etc. Right click in the groups. You can group the send mutes and levels.

Importing and exporting of Key signatures could prove useful in the future, as is the "pitched" midi function (if set, will follow the key signature). Should make for transposing a bridge up a cinch.

Timeshift is great and has the different audio modes for elastic audio.

Under ZOOM TOGGLE in the prefs you can set it to a track height zoom and a track view. So if you have the selector tool selected and you select a section of a region. Hit E, and it zooms in however you set it, do your edit, then hit E again and your zoomed back out.

One thing that does bug me is when you try to set how dark your fader colors are (cntrl/opt/apple, click and drag in the color's palette) it only goes dark, or off.

Geez... This was the first thing I noticed and is driving me nutty. I thought my vision was blurred.

When I tried manipulating it I either got the 'old school' grey track or a dim version of the colors.

it has 2 amazingly cool softkeys under the 'playlist' section on the Icon controllers called :

'next playlist'

and

'prev playlist'

and you now what ?

yup ... when you push them, the focussed track with multiple playlists on it you want to comp does exactly what you would think it would do when pushing those buttons.

That alone is worth the 7.4 upgrade imvho ....

no there's no keyboard shortcut for it yet.
yes only on D control and D command.

yet another reason to turn those analog console frames into a fancy looking bar and get a controller.

I should post some pics of our bar ... BIG freakin Argosy frame we built a sink into ... raised the entire thing up to the height where the meterbridge becomes a comfortable place to lean on after a long session.

Barstools in front of it and voila .... obsolete piece of furniture put to good use.

That's actually in the plan at the moment, replace the desk with a controller.
After some more rack gear first of course.

I've got to wait until at least tuesday to try all this elastic audio stuff - that's worth a post in the moan zone on it's own!

Oh finally thank god. What is that key command?

Also has anyone actually confirmed that the rewrote the DAE in this version? I hate to by cynical but it seems to be way to stable for such a big rewrite.

Thanks,
Michael Greene

Finally, finally. This is really good news.
I really DO want a standard keyboard shortcut for that function, too. Would take a lot of strain from the mouse-hand...

Not very much "noticeable" (elastic audio is what's cool) but there are some improvements. I posted two posts earlier today about it:

ProTooler → Post » Pro Tools 7.4 colored mix window…

ProTooler → Post » More unsung features of 7.4

I stand corrected. Good to know if I get stuck on a 7.3 rig.
