Cut Song Out Of Session: PT LE OSX

Okay so I recently recorded a band and they had moments of inspiration and longs periods without while they jammed.

So we have one session file with 8 hours or recording and want to cut each song out of this session into their own session.

Could someone please explain to me how to do this properly and end up with isolated session and folders per song?

Thanks all!

Probably multiple ways to do this, but the first that occurs to me:

Copy the parts of what you'd like the be a new session onto new tracks. Save the session and then open a new session. Use Import->Session Data and select the new tracks you made in the old session. Make sure Copy Media to New Location (or whatever) is checked. This should give you a new session with just the part you broke out in the big session. Do this for each song.

Let me know if that makes ANY sense...

Is there an easy way to ensure everything lines up properly or should I trim the parts I want to an even bar first?

They'll import just as the look on the screen in the original session. If you select all tracks for a section you want, and do a Copy, then go to a new set of tracks and do a paste, you'll have a clean copy in the old session. Then import the new tracks into a new session and it'll look just like the old session, minus the tracks you did not import. Give it a shot, it might be easier than it sounds...

Here's a way.

Use Region Groups. Make a region group out of each song and then export them.

Use the ALL group and select a song, press Command B ( or just B if command focus is on) this will separate the song as regions, then under the regions menu, select group. This will group all the regions for that song. Once this is done for all the songs, select export region groups from the regions pulldown menu. Pick a destination. Now you've got a region group for each song. Make new sessions and import each one into a session. You can drag your region groups from the bin and PT will remake the tracks for you. Once you've done this, simply ungroup and consolidate. This will make new files with only the parts you need for each song. Once you've done this for all and you're sure all is well, erase the original session. Sounds complicated but it's not. And I'm sure it's not the only way to do it, but it's very easy and foolproof.

hope this helps.

Mixing ITB? Just because you're not good at it, doesn't mean it sucks.

that's a brilliant to the point explanation - and one I'm going to remember! cheers...
