Tweaking Cubase to optimise performance

I've installed Cubase Studio 4.1 on a Windows Vista Home Premium computer, which has an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz processor, 2GB RAM and two hard drives (one 80GB, the other 250GB).

I know about many of the operating system tweaks that can be done to improve performance, but what tweaks should I apply to Cubase's configuration to optimise it?

Home studio set up:
Steinberg Cubase Studio 4.1; Sony Sound Forge 9; Windows Vista Home Premium; Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz, 2Gb RAM; Edirol UA-25 audio interface, M-10DX digital mixer, PCR-500 MIDI control keyboard; Samson Resolv50a monitors; Roland SP-606 sampler, SH-32 synth; Yamaha Motif 6 synth workstation

What I've read is that the best way to optimize your Cubase to run faster is by uninstalling Vista and run XP.

I knew that someone would say that!

I've got an XP installation too, as part of a dual boot system, but I'm going to run with the Vista installation for a while, to see how it goes.

All the same, it's application tweaks I'm interested in here, not operating system changes, so any tips would be greatly appreciated.

from one english bloke to another.
i personally am staying away from vista , cos i have a little suspicion its a stepping stone to something else,
and am happy in xp land, and a boatload of sound devices work with xp.
and i get no problems with it. versus many drivers still being worked on for vista.

the best tweak i feel is not OS/daw related, but as you have a nice processor
ensureing your recording to a hard drive that is a high performer with 16 mb cache.
no point in haveing a dam nice processor like you have if the hard drive isnt the best
performer. ive seen this on many systems.......nice processor matched with a lower performing hard drive,
or the power supply has been chintzed on cos money is tight,
then you find as you expand your pc you start getting probs cos the power supply aint up to snuff mate.
good hard drives with 16mb cache are cheap these days.
whats the make of your recording drive ??
some people use raptors. some like the seagate perpendicular drives.
irrespective are you recording to a drive with 16 mb cache.
??
this is my preference.
OS/daw tweaks will only take you so far imho.
