Need Recommendations for a cheap, used audio interface. I'm about to start putting together a new rig and I'm lookin' for some recommendations on what I should be trying to nab off of ebay for an interface in the $200-$300 range if possible. I'd like one that has enough HW ins and outs to run at least a few pieces of outboard gear with good quality converters. I'm running an M-Audio 2496 at the moment - it's gotta go.

I'm lookin' for something that can be found on ebay for $300 or less if that is, indeed, possible.

A quick search on ebay shows that both of those interfaces are out of the pricerange. Cheapest sale on an Fireface 400 is about $700 usd and the Onyx seems to be going for $450 +. For that price I'd sooner buy a brand new E-MU 1616m, which I can't afford at the moment. So once again, I'm looking for recommendations that are actually within my price range.

Try a M-audio delta 1010, has 8 i/o of analog. Line level, so no pre's, but if u have a good front end than u should be ok, plus u can add a couple more later to give up to 32 i/o's of analog. Runs Pro tools and every other program imaginable. for the money (u can find one between 300-500 brand new) its the best value. and if u really wanna step it up u can have it moded for and extra couple hundred in the future

I saw one Emu 1212m close for $72 and another one close for $99 on ebay in the last week. Good converters, cheap, stable. 2 ch. analog in, 2 ch. rca s/pdif, 8 ch. optical (lightpipe or 2 ch. s/pdif). If your outboard can't use s/pdif you could get a s/pdif converter and stay within budget. Also, there used to be (maybe still is?) a Windows audio driver for sale that is similar to the Mac aggregate device, allowing you to use multiple interfaces at the same time. In that case, you could use two 1212m's. When I remember that company I'll pass it on. I want to say it's the company that either Steinberg or Cakewalk used to write their drivers. (Was it these guys? - http://www.artlogic.com/services/device-drivers.php )

Be careful in that price range. The emu is the best value all around. Personally I can't stand the sound of any of the maudio interfaces I've heard. Cloudy is my perception,.

OK - as near as I can tell the 1212M and the microdock from the 1616m are compatible, correct? The way I read that is I could drop a few hundred on a 1616m PCMCIA version now, and add a 1212M to my desktop down the road, giving me a SOLID interface for both my laptop and my PC (via the Microdock). Am I correct? The RME cards are undoubtedly awesome, but there are no bargains to be had from people who are willing to ship to Canada.
