can cubase4 record vsts or reason as audio?

Ive been learning Pro Tools and its so easy to record a Vst as audio. I am sequencing reason with and some hardware synths with an mpc. I dont even want to bother tracking each midi sequence at a time. Is there a way I can route my audio from reason to individual audio tracks in Cubase?

Ofcourse you can...

With the new 4.1 update (free) it is even easier than before. You just select any input for an audiotrack and arm it for recording.

Odd thing with Cubase, is sometimes you have to create group tracks in order to route to input of audio tracks.
The problem with Cubase and Reason is that when you route through the hardware interface of Reason in order to rewire specific instruments of Reason separately into Cubase, the tracks are not stereo. They end up being mono. Only the master output (1/2) of the hardware device has stereo routing into Cubase. This is an inexcusable problem with Cubase that shockingly has not been fixed with the 4.1 update.

Thanks, its a shame its such a pain to do something that should be simple. MIDI in pro tools stinks it take like 10 steps just to get recording a midi track, but its easy to route once you get it going. Oh well Ill try it using some group tracks and see if I can get it done. If anyone else has any good techniques for tracking reason to cubase while using an external sequencer(that doesnt involve bouncing each midi track on at a time) please share. Thanks.

Isn't this a Reason problem?

Reason is the only vst instrument I've had a problem with. All my other synths and sequencers load with a stereo out under the vst drop down, I solo it, and mixdown audio. Which for me is a slot faster than PT because I dont have to sit there through a realtime bounce just to track a vst instrument.

I would say it is a Cubase problem because Reason stereo routing works just fine with other sequencers. It is definitely a Cubase problem and well-discussed and complained about on Cubase.net.

To Mike Mitchell--Reason is not a VSTi. It is rewired. There are plenty of complaints about Reason relying on rewire and Propellerhead not making a VST version. I believe these complaints are very legitimate.

There is no data to export because im using an external sequencer, to track the midi data you have to go one track at a time and its not even worth it using the external sequencer if you have to track it this way.

I guess having a cluttered input option tab doesn´t bother you. It bothers me.
One of the things i like the most about cubase is it being so streamlined when compared to others.

+ 1

And the new routing plot in 4.1 is damn brilliant, if you ask me. very slick design!

Best,
midi.

I agree. Cubase is the Mercedes-Benz of DAWs.
Pro Tools is the big bulky SUV that needs 6 lanes to make a U-turn.

part of the problem is probably that Reason is not a VST and operates via Rewire.............

EDIT: that was already said.........i practice selective reading.........sorry
