| Lives for gear | How can I record midi from midi guitar?
I have an axon ax100 working fine. I have a k2600 also recording fine. Issue is this: The axon sends out all kinds of complex midi info like fret splits and ability to play back several channels of midi into my K2600. I had it set up all kinds of ways so far but I am only able to record the axon midi data if its like this: Axon >> K2600 >> PC. If I route directly into my sequencer: Connect the MIDI output of the K2600 to a computer MIDI input. Connect the MIDI input of the K2600 to a computer MIDI output. Switch Local mode to Off in the K2600. Connect the MIDI output of the Axon to a computer MIDI input. Connect the MIDI input of the Axon to a computer MIDI output. Switch Local mode to Off in the Axon. But that way I cant record the actual midi data from the Axon! What I want is to record axon midi data with cubase then have it send all that complex data into the K2600 and monitor on an audio track. Is this a routing issue? What do I do so I can get two midi channels recorded? The Axon only really shines for pick splits when im going right into the k2600 and out into an audio track! |

jay. i dont know the specifics of that axon device. but there are various knowledgeable people doing guitar midi recording here... if u post in the off topic forum. just in case u dont get an answer. PG Music Forums: Viewing forum: Off-Topic and heres a thread where folks are discussing midi guitar recording. mebe they can help also ?? PG Music Forums: Recording midi guitar i dont know whether this is important to you, but powertracks that i use has some interesting midi guitar features. one being a actual guitar fretboard midi display,(bass display also.) plus also a midi guitar clean up feature for cleaning up midi guitar tracks. you can also filter a midi stream, plus split off to seperate tracks. there is also an interesting utility called midimon.exe that is a comprehensive utility that lets u troubleshoot midi streams (eg midi input)...n files etc etc. assuming you have a midi out on that device i dont see why u cant just record direct to midi in of pc. only thing i can think of as a possibility is mebe check the midi send channel on the axon is set to the same midi channel as the daw software midi channel. thus if in the daw software the midi ch is set to say 1, then try the axon sending on midi ch 1. hope this helps a tad. (ps....i did a quik read of the axon manual. it seems there are various settings for triggering/sensitivity. thus i would look at your settings carefully when recording axon direct to midi in of pc. eg...sensitivity re senseing the strings. cos it looks like if one doesnt pay attention to these settings one might not the desired result. from reading the axon manual it looks like instead of connecting midi out of K2600 to pc midi in. try midi thru from k2600 to midi in of pc. (assuming the 2600 has a midi thru...this is in the situation when axon is connected to pc via the k2600).....theres a connection diagram in the axon manual to show you. plus..note , each string can be on its own midi channel. )
