UAD 1176LN or LA-2A

I've got 1 UAD card with the 1176SE included. I'd like to add a comp to the card. Which is better for drums, vocals, etc, the 1176LN or LA-2A? Is the LN that much better than the SE? The LN is supposed to me much more of a CPU hog.

I prefer the LA3A for drums, as its less "mushy" than the '2A...IMHO...

LN is more aggressive than SE, maybe? I have all the UAD plugs. I find uses for both '76s all the time. Have you used your 14 day demo yet?

the 1176se IMHO is unusable. the LN is much better.

i like the LN on snare and some guitars. i like the la2a on bass. i only use my liquid mix (millenia stt emulation) on vocals.

so, in true gearslutz fashion....you need BOTH. but i would get the LN first.

Together with Distressor, 1176 is one of the most commonly used compressors for drums. LA-3 are the solid state version of LA-2 and both works great on vocals. SE is the lightversion of LN and supposedly donīt sound as good as the LN. I really canīt tell the difference and as you say, the LN do take more CPU.

The Neve 33609 comp is also nice. It has some auto-release features that make it fairly transparent.

i love the la-2a on vocals and bass and stuff, as it makes signal bigger than live

the 1176 is much more brutal and can make signals smaller, but more agressive, so i tend to use it on snare and kicks ands stuff like that

but also think of the neve 88r as this is a very usable channelstrip with a good compressor and very good eq, a real workhorse that doesnīt need a lot of power

if your looking for an aggressive sound 1176 is where you'll find it...a more smooth laid back vibe but still fat la2a, la3a pretty clean but does something nice to vocals
